Chapter 51: Windows
I didn’t come out of my room after Liam left. I just changed into my pajamas and got in bed. I lay there for a while, thinking. Would Louis be a problem for Harry and me? What would Liam do if he found out? All these questions, the uncertainty, tempted me to call things off with Harry before it went too far, but then I got a reminder of why I was doing this with him.
Good night sweet cheeks! Xx Harry
I smiled after reading the text. It was a cute, but simple reminder of why I was with him. He cared about me. I slipped my phone into my night stand drawer and curled up under my duvet. About fifteen minutes later I heard a tentative knock. I looked over at my door, but it wasn’t coming from there. I jumped out of my bed and searched the room. Who was knocking? As I passed my window, I heard the knock again. I carefully unlocked and opened it. There was no one outside. I was about to close it when a foot popped down from somewhere above the window. It got steady on the ledge before another appeared. I backed up as Harry lowered his body on to the ledge of the window.
“Can I come in?” He asked, smirking. Without waiting for an answer, he slid into my room.
“Harry, what the hell?” I asked. Where had he come from?
“It turns out my bedroom is directly above yours. I figured as much since my flat is the one above yours and they have the same layouts…” He winked and lay down on my bed. I had never thought of something like that. This boy was a sneak!
“But how did… You climbed from a… That’s dangerous- You- Seven floors… You could have hurt yourself!” I stuttered out. He smirked.
“You’re cute when you worry.”
“HARRY!” I tried to keep my voice down, but it still managed to get louder, “that wasn’t safe.”
“What we’re doing isn’t safe, babe.” He countered, nonchalantly.
“Yeah, but-” he reminded me of something, “what if Liam comes in and finds you here?”
“Don’t you lock your door? By the time you go and unlock it, I’ll be hiding or back in my room,” He laughed, confidently. His cockiness didn’t surprise me.
“What if he hears us?!” I whispered.
“Are you kidding? These walls are thick. Two weeks ago, Zayn and I were sharing a hotel room next to Lou, and Eleanor visited. We could hear them fuck each other all night. Niall even said he could hear them from the room on the other side of us! Whenever Eleanor visits here, though, I sleep like a baby; I don’t hear a thing. These walls are thick. He can’t hear us.” He smirked. I blushed at his example.
“What about Louis? What will happen if he finds out that you’re not in your room?” Harry laughed, the deep sound echoed off of my walls.
“Louis isn’t my guardian like Liam is yours. We’re just roommates. Plus, he knows I’m down here. He helped me climb out the window.” Harry smiled.
“But he- he was giving us such a hard time. He wants Liam to find out!” I sputtered.
“No. He just likes giving us a hard time. He said he’d help us, so he will. It doesn’t mean he’ll make it easier for us.” Harry folded his hands behind his head and leaned back. I rolled my eyes, great. I looked around the room and yawned.
“So, how did you climb down here?” I asked
“Easy, the gutter drain runs from my window down over yours. I just held on to that as I scaled down the wall.” He unfolded his hands and sat up.
“You look tired.” He muttered, reaching for my hand.
“Thanks. What a compliment.” I replied, sarcastically.
“You should get some sleep.” He ignored my comment. He tugged on my hand lightly, urging me to step forwards.
“Ok, well currently there is someone on my bed. I can’t exactly go to sleep.” I rolled my eyes. He smiled and pulled me onto his lap.
“I’m sure we’ll figure something out,” he purred
in my ear. He gently kissed behind my ear.
“Harry. How do you suppose I fall asleep when you kiss me like that? You’re distracting me.” I whispered. He laughed softly.
“You’ll have to figure it out,” he murmured against my skin. His lips went up to my ear and his teeth slowly grazed it.
“Harry,” I tried again. I was enjoying this WAY too much for someone who only just started to date. He stopped and smiled down at me. He wrapped his thick arms around my waist and lay down, with me still in his grasp. I lay down too. Since I had been on his lap, I was now curled up tightly, he was curled around me.
“How about now?” He asked. I couldn’t see his face, but I knew he was smiling, “Can you sleep now?”
“I think so.” He kissed the back of my head and rubbed his hand on my lower back soothingly. He started to hum an unfamiliar song. Slowly, I began to drift off.
“STAND UP SLUT!” he yelled at me. I was curled in a ball on the floor.
“Tyler, I-I am so sorry.” I cried out.
“That isn’t good enough!” He snapped as he kicked me in the spine. A sharp pain ripped through my body.
I woke up gasping. I looked around nervously; that wasn’t a dream, it was a memory. I looked around the room, but I couldn’t see anything, it was too dark. I felt around in my bed searching for Harry; the bed was empty. My heart stopped; did he leave me? Why did that make me so nervous? I had fallen asleep, of course he would leave.
“Harry?” I whispered hoarsely, nervously, hopefully. My bed dipped down at the end of it. Someone crawled their way over to me. His hands found me and pulled me onto his lap.
“What’s wrong?” He whispered nervously.
“Where were you?” I asked. I realized that I had been crying; whether it was the dream or the fact that Harry wasn’t there when I woke up, I don’t know.
“You kick in your sleep. I went to go sit over by your desk to avoid getting a bruise.” He tried to laugh, but it was a choked sound, “Are you alright?”
“I had a dream, Harry. It was a nightmare.” Tears started to roll down my cheeks.
“Shh, baby, it’s ok. It was only a dream. I’m here. I’ll protect you. I won’t leave.” He reassured me, rubbing my back with one hand while holding me on his lap with the other.
“It wasn’t only a dream, Harry,” I coughed out between the sobs that had started, “It- I, he… It was a memory. It was, he… Tyler- I, he was…” I couldn’t finish my sentence; the crying had gotten to be too much. I felt his arms tighten around me when I mentioned Tyler.
“He won’t hurt you ever again. I’m here. I’ll kill him.” He tried to sound softly, but he spoke through clenched teeth.
“Thank you,” was all I could murmur back. We sat there for a little bit. He was rocking me in his lap and rubbing my back. After a while, he spoke gently.
“Don’t freak out if I’m not here when you wake up; Liam is an early riser and I just want to be safe. Is that all right?” He asked me. When I didn’t answer, he got nervous.
“Never mind, I’ll stay.” He reassured me.
“No, it’s ok. I’ll be ok.” I insisted. I lay my head against his shoulder, his curls tickling the top of my head. His arms were wrapped around me protectively. I fell asleep there; sitting up on his lap. It was an uncomfortable position but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
