The past

Ben's POV:

I sat there in the afternoon, silently talking to Rey. I am very happy that she is not angry with us, so far. But deep in my sole I am scared that she is either faking her emotions or she will explode the very second after she finds about her past. I try to tell her everything in a way to sound like a story, even a fairytale, I want her to understand, I want her to forgive my mother.

"Me, a princess? Ha, that's ...that's ridiculous." She giggled, but it looks fake, like she is trying to make a joke from something that obviously isn't.

"I am not joking Rey, it's the truth." She stopped the very moment I finished my statement and looked at me seriously. Her eyes even went slightly dark, her hazelnut iris promptly took a chocolate shade. I don't want to say anything else, I don't want to test her temper.

"Do you seriously believe in that? Me? An orphan scavenger on the junkyard planet of Jakku?" She smiled mockingly, I felt bad.

"For that...um...I am to blame. I left you there." My head fell low.

"What? Why don't I remember? Anything?"

"You were small, and I erased all your memories" She nodded, in realization.

"What else do you have to tell me? How many secrets is your family hiding away from me?" She is starting to get confused and angry, her tone is a little bit higher although she wants to hide it. I took a deep breath, not really sure how to begin, but this way or another she will find out. It's hard, the words feel like stones in my throat.

"This so called law was made only for the allies of the resistance, it was made to make a bigger Jedi army, the Resistance wanted to make sure that they have what it takes to fight the dark.

Well, your father, Abegonion II King of the planet Amerath, long before you were born became our ally after my mother's long political discussion with him. At first he didn't want to be part of this because of his strong status and economy, he could rule and fight on his own, but then he chose the light instead of the Dark.

Few years after he had a child with his wife Emeline I Queen of Amerath. That was you Rey Firstborn Princess of Amerath. The golden child. He made the biggest party that all the realms have ever seen, celebrating the birth of his daughter.

Everyone was invited, my mother, father and my uncle among them. And then things started to go wrong. The celebration was attacked, but no one got killed, it was only a warning.

The same day the council met and they decided to make the Jedi academy, stating that all kids talented with the force must by any means attend. Your father singlehandedly signed the paper.

He never knew that you are force sensitive. No one in his or your mother's family was force sensitive, you were the first.

Your talents first showed when you moved apples without needing to touch them, you knew how to fix a broken instrument and you read minds, you felt things, and your parents got scared. Not from you, they knew what was happening and they didn't want to let you go, they wanted to hide your powers, so you can stay with them, and I understand now, as a parent myself.

Things got much worse for them when someone from the council that stayed in your home for a week noticed you, and he instantly informed the Resistance. They accused you father of disloyalty and they threatened him with an attack if he doesn't hand you to the school.

Of course, you can guess that he denied to do that, and...and our troops attached your land and the palace grounds. Your mother ran with you in her arms throughout the palace, keeping you save, trying to reach the secret room in the basement, but she was stooped and surrounded. She refused to give you to them, saying that they don't have any right to take children from their homes. She cursed the paper that her husband signed, understanding that they as a royal family have done the same to other people, to their citizens. She took out a sword to fight them, but they were five and she was one...she got stabbed with a lightsaber.

The guards took you and after that you were taken to the academy. Your memory was erased and we met. I was your only friend, and you were mine. Luke cared especially for you, knowing that you are of great importance. Your planet on the other hand, restored from the attack, your father survived and continued to rule as a king, but without his queen.

Now he seeks revenge against the Resistance and against my family...I am so sorry Rey, I found out myself few days ago." I don't have the courage it takes to look in her eyes, and I didn't have to, I just heard the sound of her steps fading away in the distance...

I closed my eyes and swallowed, for the first time in years I activated my lightsaber and destroyed the bench we sat on. I just hope the dark is not rising in me again...
