Dorothylla's POV:
I stared at him, my eyes wide from the shock, not moving a single muscle. His voice, is menacing, sending slow shivers down my spine. I swallowed anxiously, my glare not living him, not even a second.
He is still hidden in the grey shadows that cover every inch of his body. I don't know what to think. Do I want to see his face, or do I want he to be concealed in there the whole time? I looked away, this time my eyes fell on the floor that looked freshly polished. Soon realization struck me. This man knows me, he knows ME! I repeated into myself.
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" I turned at his direction, my voice shakier than normal. He will notice that, he will use that against me. At first no answer came, not even a murmur. Why is he mute? Why isn't he talking? As much as I am nervous right now, part of me still wants to hear him talk, to find out another secret that is kept away from me.
Then he removed one foot from the shadow. His shoes are crimson red, like blood. The colour that resembles kings, that divides comuners from emperors. I felt him smirk the whole time, even if I can't see his face. He is smiling at me, mocking my situation. The situation that he brought my family upon, the reason still unknown. This time I smirked, sudden strength returning to my lungs, ready to speak my mind.
"It is time you answer my question!" I shouted.
"Such a small child, with so much courage to speak to a king like that. Where are your manners?" He replied.
"No king greets his 'guests' like this. He must stand in front of them, look them in the eyes. "
"You are a wise kid, but your tongue can cost you much." He finished talking and got out of his hiding place. He removed his hood gently, like he is afraid it will form into dust if he grippes it harder. For the first time I am seeing this man, and he is not what I thought he would be.
No, not at all. Quite the opposite, it seems.
In my mind I imagined a man that will intimidate me with his features, a man that will scare me half to death, but he is everything but. This is a man that is sad, that lived too long to see too many tragic things in his life. A man that has so many wrinkles, each one of them telling an unpleasant story of his being. His eyes, they are only concluding the whole picture, they are big and brown, but nor warm tree-like brown, but dull shade of that color. It is like his life events erased the happiness in them, they removed the gleam in them.
Looking him like this, I even felt a sparkle of sympathy inside my young heart. My expression softened, just by staring at him. The only thing that screamed emperor are his clothes. The long golden and red tunic, with few green leaves here and there, he looked majestic. His full attire completely matching the palace, showing the wealth, but not the happiness.
"Dorothylla..." He swallowed uncertainly. "You are here for a reason. I assume you know that already."
"Maybe, but the purpose of this kidnapping is unknown." I stated. He didn't look taken aback. Normally a king would react for my disrespect.
"Yes, and your grand uncle knows the reason, he found out while ago..."
"You beat him like he is a bag of potatoes, like he is worth nothing, because of what? Do you have an explanation for that?" I hissed. The two armed guards behind me clutched my arms. The king said nothing, just raised his hand giving the guards some sort of sign. My arms were freed instantly. I rubbed my wrists, letting the pain easen up a bit.
"He got what he deserved, he got on my nerves, dancing on my soft spot. It is a rightful penalty for his attitude."
"Even if he hit your soft spot he doesn't deserve to be beaten up like that."
" No one has the right to say that the things your family did to me are fine. They are not fine. No one deserves to lose their child, their only ray of light."
"What, what are you saying?"
"Rey is my daughter Dorothylla, and that makes you my granddaughter." He said softly.
