A couple days after Sunny was released from the infirmary, we were told a new sickening mission.

We had to go back to school.

Back to our lives, our families, yada yada, that was all good. But back. to school.

Waking up in the morning in my normal bed, looking out at my normal pile of clothes, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. I slung my bag on my back and pet my dog before walking to the bus stop.

When I got in, I half expected a new bus driver, but Foose Croony was there and gave me a slight tip of the hat. I glanced at the brim, there was a tiny raven and bell penguin embroidered in silver. A gift from me and Sunny.

I huffed down on the seat I had so often huffed down on before, next to my best friend.

"Did you do the homework?" Sunny asked, eyeing me hopefully.

I stared at her, "You're joking."

She continued to stare.

"Sunny, you spent, like, five days doing nothing alone in an infirmary with Caprin, what the heck were you doing?" I asked and she smiled sheepishly.

Alone in an infirmary with Caprin.

Oh.

Let's not ask.

I handed her the math homework. No one had noticed our absence thanks to a little Libra magic and I gazed at our approaching school with dread. It looked so utterly normal.

We met Melody by the school's entrance. She bounced up to us and smiled happily.

"Don't you have science first period Melody?" Sunny asked.

"Mmmhmmm." she said, still smiling. Sunny poked her.

"Who are you and what have you done with Melody." I asked, not trusting this happy to go to science Melody one bit.

"You'll see." she said secretly and pulled us into the school and our homeroom class.

I couldn't help but gasp.

Taris and Caprin were all sitting at our usual table, being fawned over by Janet Wagner and her entire posse. Taris looked like he was trying very hard not to push her off and smiled brightly when we entered the room and ended up doing just that.

Janet flumped to the floor as we made our way to the table.

"What- what are you guys doing here?" I asked, not trying to hide my surprise.

"What? Don't you remember, I'm that transfer student and these (Taris gestured to Semba who had just walked in and Caprin) are my transfer student friends."

"Besides," Semba said and sauntered over to where I was, "I believe I have a certain essay I need to make up for." he said with a smile.

I noticed Janet staring.

I didn't really care.

Ok, maybe I enjoyed it a little bit.

"But," Melody pointed at Taris, "what about the dorms?"

Taris nodded, "I'll be abit busy, but I can manage. Besides, you guys can visit the dorms on weekends and holidays to help out a learn a thing or two. Even without the war, tensions are high and there's always and invasion or two to snuff out." Taris continued raising his eyebrow, "if you're up for the challenege."

I looked at Sunny and Melody. Were we up for a life that was way far from normal?

Born for it.
