I have the privilege of going to one of the best schools in East Africa. It's a boarding school and I am currently finishing my A - levels. As an upper 6th former ( High school senior) I live in this beautiful dormitory with my year group and for safety reasons, the doors are always locked.... well except for tonight!

It's currently 1 am and 20 girls are dressed in black from head to toe in front of the door that our teacher forgot to lock. There's pin - drop silence as we wait for the signal that commences The night run!

And with a giggle and a shove, we're off, skipping and jumping in the cold rift valley air. As the girls that i have known for more than half my life twirl and spin....a sense of nostalgia fills the air.

We can all feel it. With our afros, braids and skin blending in with the dark night, with our feet firmly planted on the soil of our homeland, there's an inaudible cohesive sigh. This is one of our last moments of pure freedom.

So we smile and we laugh and we play. For tomorrow, we face the corporate world, where there is little room for a Black, African, Young, and Ambitious Woman.

We stay a minute longer.
-A minute longer for the discrimination we will face.
-A minute longer for the racism.
- A minute longer for the ignorance that the world has about the 'country' Africa😒
- A minute longer for all the people who will say ' you speak such good english' when we go to university😒
- A minute longer for the amount of times we will get away for saying that lions roam the streets.😂😂😂 too easy.
- A minute longer for sexism.
- A minute longer for our misunderstood culture.
- A minute longer for our curly hair and our dark skin.
- A minute longer for our sisters who face some of the harshness of our culture.
- A minute longer for women in other countries who face their own struggles.
- A minute longer for the victories of the women before us. It is because of them that we are where we are.

And when we are done, we square our shoulders and march back into our dorm with our heads held high. For tomorrow is another day and we are unapologetically, Proud African Women.

Be proud of who you are and where you are from. In the African society, your heritage is everything! We are women from different walks of earth... is that not beautiful?

Sending you love from Kenya😙😙
