Can We Really Make It?

This chapters kinda short compared to most of my chapters. Don't worry though. Next few chapters are going to get interesting.

D sat waiting at Acorn's for Luffy with the rest of the crew. He had shown up shortly after Luffy and the others had found Acorn and his two monkeys wounded. Luffy had declared he would get Acorn's gold back and Nami had made him promise to be back by a certain time or else they couldn't go to Sky Island. While he went to get the gold everyone else would work on fixing the modifications on the Mary that had been broken. While working on it D had noticed something.

"Hand me some bolts for this wing." Ussop instructed as he lined up the left wing. The two monkeys were using ropes strung from one of their ships to support its weight.

"Here you go." Robin handed him a handful of bolts. "What do you need next?"

"Hand me some nuts." He reached back with one hand.

"Dez nuts?" D asked as he dropped some peanuts in his hand.

Ussop pulled his hand back to look at them before dropping them down on his lap. "Thanks but I need nuts for the bolts." He reached out and took the nuts from Robin. "Could you help me make the foundation for the wings stronger?"

"Sure thing." D put his hand on the railing connected to the wing. "I'll just meld them together."

'Don't change me!' A little girl's voice echoed in his mind shocking him.

"Did you meld them together?" Ussop asked as he dazedly pulled his hand away.

"Sorry." He shook his head to clear it. "I don't think I'll be able to help with the ship's repairs." Both Ussop and Robin tried to ask him what was wrong but he just waved them away. Still a little dazed he left the ship and went to sit beside Acorn's hut.

Hours went by and the time they needed to leave drew closer.

"Where is luffy?" Nami asked as she paced back and forth. "If he doesn't get here quick we can't go to Sky Island."

"Didn't you and Ussop not want to go up there?" D asked her as he chuckled.

"Originally yes." She answered without stopping. "But after those idiots in town laughed at me when I asked about Sky Island there's no way I'm not proving them wrong." She raged. "Nobody laughs at me like that!"

"It really is worrisome that Luffy hasn't made it back yet." Robin mused. "It only takes about two hours to make it to town from here. If you add two hours for the trip and figure one hour to retrieve the gold then the round trip should take five hours. He has been gone for over seven hours."

"I doubt it would take him an hour to get the gold." D pointed out. "He did beat Crocodile who is stronger than all the Pirates in that town."

"So what's taking him so long?!" Nami yelled.

"Hey guys!" Luffy's voice called out from the woods. Within moments he became visible running along the path.

"Finally that idiot shows up." Zoro grinned. "The repairs have been finished hours ago."

"I got it!" Luffy yelled, a large bag slung over his shoulder. And in his hand, a bug. "I found the Hercules Beetle!"

"That guy took forever cause he was looking for a bug?" Nami yelled. As soon as Luffy arrived she smacked him across the head.

"Hey?!" Luffy cried out in alarm. "You made me almost drop the Hercules!"

"It's just a bug!" Nami yelled.
