Matt called me a few days ago and said one of the bartenders quit unexpectedly so I'd have to interview and hire a new person, but until then, I have to fill in. During the week it wasn't that bad but Friday was miserable with all the stupid drunks. I have to work again tonight and I'm dreading it.
Today Tyler and I are going to the doctor because all the pregnancy tests are coming back as negative. It's been a few weeks of trying and nothing has happened.
Tyler sits in the chair and I sit on the table as we wait for the doctor to come in. I feel nervous. What if what happened to me messed with my reproductive system? Would Tyler still want me if I couldn't have children? What if he was the one who wasn't doing his part? It's possible.
The doctor comes in and introduces himself. "You must be Mia. I'm Dr. Martin." He shakes our hand then sits down on the stool. "We'll start by you giving me an explanation about why you're here today."
I glance at Tyler before looking at the doctor and speaking. "We've been trying to conceive for a few weeks now but all the tests are coming back negative. I guess I'm just trying to make sure everything's okay." I shrug a little.
He nods. "Okay. Do you have children?"
"A three year old son." I answer.
"When is the last time you had your menstrual cycle?" He asks.
I shift uncomfortably. "The week before we started trying."
"I suggest you continue trying and taking tests. It'd be too soon in a pregnancy to be detected by a urine test. Blood work picks it up faster." He explains. "If you don't get good results in a week or two's time, schedule another appointment and we can run some tests. Some factors that can affect pregnancy are stress and wrong timing. Keep in mind, ovulation is when you're more likely to conceive. As for stress, you should try not to take on more than you can handle." He says. "Drinking and smoking can also affect both female's and male's bodies when it comes to conceiving. If either of you happens to be doing either of those things, you could try to stop and that could help increase your chances."
I nod. "Okay. Thank you."
"No problem." He smiles, glancing between us. "Any other questions?"
Tyler clears his throat. "Can she still have sex when she's pregnant?"
I stare at him in disbelief and the doctor chuckles. "Yes. In fact, her hormone levels will rise and she'll probably want to be physical more often."
I shake my head, blushing slightly. That's embarrassing. "Thanks, doc. Have a nice day."
"Thanks. You too."
Tyler stands, holding out his hand for me to take. "Let's go make a baby."

Ever since we went to the doctors, I've had this weird depression. Maybe it's because I'm questioning myself. I'm probably just over-thinking like usual but I can't help but feel upset. Will he still want me if I can't have a baby? I push the thought aside when I see Gavin and Diane who both work next door at the diner. "Hey." I smile.
"Two jobs, huh?" Gavin asks with a smile.
I nod. "I prefer working at the diner but one of the workers quit unexpectedly so I have to fill in."
"My friend used to be a bartender. She's not working right now, I can tell her about the opening." Diane offers.
"That sounds great. Thanks." I smile. "First drink's free. What can I get you?"
Gavin talks me into doing a shot of tequila with them then I get us all beers. Derek, the other bartender, comes over to us. "You don't have to stay back here. I can handle this."
"Really?" I ask. He nods. "Good, because I've had a bad day and I really want a drink. I'll give you extra hours for the week." I wink.
He nods then returns to working. Diane, Gavin and I all go out onto the dance floor. We dance until we're too hot to continue dancing. When we return to the bar, I get us all drinks, making sure to write it down on my tab. "Thanks." Gavin says.
We all clink glasses then drink our shots in one gulp. Gavin and Diane talk while I take care of the glasses and wipe up the bar. When someone sits down at the bar in front of me, I look up to ask them what they'd like, only to find Tyler. "Hey babe. Want something?" I ask.
"A kiss." He smiles.
I lean over the bar, my lips meeting his. He cups my cheek and deepens the kiss. It only lasts a few seconds before it comes to an end. "What?" I ask, confused.
"The doctor said we shouldn't drink." He says.
"I've only had a few." I shrug. "I wanted to have fun for once."
"We do have fun." He says.
I raise an eyebrow. "When?"
He takes a moment to think. "We have sex like all the time. It's fun sneaking around." He says. "And we play with Alex."
"Take Alex out of the equation because this is about you and me." I shake my head. "And the sex isn't fun anymore because you're planning it and we do it all the time. It's not special anymore."
He furrows his eyebrows. "Why haven't you said anything before?"
Someone sits down beside him and clears his throat. "Can I get two Jager bombs - one for you and one for me?"
I smile. "Sure thing."
I fill two cups with Red Bull then fill two shot glasses with Jagermeister. He gives me the money then I drop a shot glass into each cup. "Cheers." He smiles.
"Could you stop fucking flirting with my girlfriend right in front of my face?" Tyler snaps, shoving the guys arm.
"I just bought the woman a drink, man. I wasn't flirting at all." He says.
"The fuck you weren't." Tyler yells. "I've been here since you sat down."
"Ty!" I yell but no one hears me.
"Just calm down." The guy says.
"You calm the fuck down."
Tyler pushes him once more, making him spill his drink on his shirt. Before anything can happen, I run around the bar and apologize to the man before dragging Tyler out of the building. I shove him against the brick wall in anger. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I snap. "We weren't flirting. This is my job - if you don't like it then I'm sorry. But it's a fucking bar! People are gonna buy me drinks."
"I'm sorry, okay? I just snapped."
"I can't pretend to be happy with you. This whole baby thing is stressing me out." I say. "You're putting a lot of pressure on me and I'm not even sure I want a baby."
This surprises him. He takes a deep breath and runs his fingers through his hair. "It's fine. We'll go to bed and wake up with each other in the morning and pretend nothing ever happened."
I shake my head. "It's over Tyler."
