The doctor's office was filled until today, so I had to wait a week to get an appointment. The only people that know about me possibly being pregnant are Tyler and Steven. I asked them to keep quiet because no one's ever sure if anything will happen. It'd only make it harder if you were to tell everyone early on in your pregnancy then lose the baby. It's just easier this way.
I told Tyler about my appointment and he said he'd be here but he never showed up. I stand beside the bed in a gown, waiting for the doctor to return. Because it's so early on in the pregnancy, the ultrasound has to be done vaginally. I had to get one done when I was pregnant with Alex too.
As I stand there, I wonder if it's a boy or girl. I'd love to have a girl. I've always dreamed of having a girl. It'd be nice but I'll love them either way.
When the door opens, I look up expecting the doctor but find Tyler instead. He raises his eyebrows. "Is it over?"
I shake my head. "No."
He exhales loudly. "Thank god. Sorry I'm late."
"It's fine."
A woman enters the room next and shakes our hands. "I'm Dr. Smith, your ultrasound technician today. You can take a seat." She says nodding to the big chair with the weird leg holders.
Tyler holds out his hand, helping me onto the chair. When he goes to walk away, I squeeze his hand. Partially because I want him with me and partially because I don't want him looking at my... exposed body. He stays by my side as the nurse prepares. "Now, the way this works -"
"No need to explain." I interrupt her. "I've had this done before. I have a son." I say politely.
Nodding, she smiles. "How old?"
"Three and a half."
"He'll be excited to welcome a baby into the house. Kids are sweet." She says.
When she takes her place, Tyler's eyes widen and he tries to pull away but I hold onto his hand. This is so uncomfortable but when I see the picture on the screen, all is forgotten. That's my baby. Our baby. "That thing is the baby?" Tyler asks.
The nurse nods. "Yes. The baby's arms and legs are beginning to poke out and it's hands and feet are forming."
"It's tiny." Tyler says softly, clearly fascinated.
"If we could take the embryo out right now, it'd be the size of a blueberry. "
"Wow. When can we find out the gender?" He asks.
I look at him with a smile on my face. He's so excited. "At twenty weeks." I answer, remembering when I found out Alex's gender.
The doctor finishes up and allows me to sit up. Taking off her gloves and taking the tray aside, she glances at me. "You're seven weeks along. Have you been getting morning sickness?"
I nod. "Yeah. Only a couple times a week thought. It's not that bad."
"That should stop around fourteen weeks but the urge to pee will increase." She chuckles. "I love my kids but there are some downfalls to pregnancy."
I smile. "I know. Some nights I wake up and have to pee."
She chuckles. "Kids are great. Congratulations to you two. Set up your appointment at the front desk before you leave."
She leaves and I hop off the chair. "Turn around." I tell Tyler. He raises his eyebrows and I glare at him. "Turn around."
Sighing, he turns and I get dressed. When I'm finished, he turns and smiles. "I can't believe we're actually having a baby."
"You're not having a baby, I am." I correct him. "You get to help raise them."
We leave the room and I go to the front desk where I set up my next appointment. After I set a date, Tyler and I walk outside together. He walks me to my car and opens the door for me. I get in and he closes it. Turning the car on, I roll my window down. "Thanks for coming."
"No problem. Text me if you need anything."
I nod. "I will."
Just as I'm about to roll the window up, he leans down, crossing his arms on the car. "Wait a second. Can we both agree not to see anyone for now?"
I chuckle. "I would never see anybody when I was pregnant."
He holds up his pinkie. "Pinkie promise?"
Sighing, I hold up my pinkie. "Pinkie promise."
*****************************
Today I am ten weeks and I'm already starting to show. The doctor said I'm starting to show already because my muscles are already stretched from having a baby so it's easier. Pregnancy is a weird thing. Especially when I feel like this...
Tyler and I promised not to see anyone else while we were figuring things out but when you're pregnant, you get these sexual cravings that can't be controlled. He also told me to text him if I needed anything so I texted him, asking him to come over.
I step out of the bathtub and slip my robe on, tying it closed. When the doorbell rings, I answer the door to find a worried Tyler. "Is everything okay? What'd you need?"
Closing the space between us, I press my lips to his. "We agreed that we wouldn't see anybody else... so that leaves me with just you."
He furrows his eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
"Remember how you asked the doctor if I could have sex and he said yes?" He nods. "We told you I'd want to be more physical eventually. Well, that time has come."
His confused expression quickly changes and he steps in, closing the door. "Where is Alex?"
"My mom's." I answer.
He takes a deep breath, looking around. "So how do we do this?"
Untying my robe, I let it drop to the floor. His eyes widen as he stares at my stomach. "The baby." He breathes.
Cupping his cheek, I pull his face to mine and kiss him. I deepen the kiss and begin walking backwards towards the bedroom.
