We run out of the house and into the car in our pajamas. We didn't care if we were wearing them, it wasn't important right now.

My heart was racing and swelling with pure joy, dad was awake, dad was awake.

He was finally awake.

We get to the hospital 10 minutes later and race to their room.

"Tyler."

"Dad."

Mom and I kneel down on each side of his bed.

He opens his kind, loving brown eyes of his and smiles at us.

"My two favorite girls," He says in a quiet voice, clearly in pain.

I start crying.

"Sunshine, please don't cry. You're going to make me cry," He reaches for my hand and holds it in his.

"I'm sorry, daddy. I'm just so happy to see you awake. I've missed you so much."

"As have I."

Mom holds his hand and kisses his cheek.

"Oh, I've missed you," She says, running her hand through his hair.

"Oh, I know," He chuckles and kisses her hand.

"How do you feel?" I ask.

"Like crap, but I'll be okay. I took a pretty hard hit, huh?"

"Yeah."

"How long have I been out?"

"Two weeks."

"Wow."

"Lucky enough, I've been looking after you," I hear Uncle Josh say.

"Of course you have, man."

"Cath, where's my hug?"

I roll my eyes playfully and give him a tight hug.

"Ah, yes, that felt nice. Thank you."

"Anytime," I kiss his cheek and kneel down next to dad again.

The door opens and the doctor walks in.

"Mr. Joseph, I see you're awake now."

He gives dad a check up and says he'll have to be in the hospital for a week and half more.

"Do you want something to eat?" Mom asks.

"Oh, Jenna. You always know when I'm hungry," He laughs.

"Please, bring me taco bell."

"Will do," Mom kisses him on the lips and I instantly gag in a joking matter.

They laugh and mom exits out of the room.

"Dad, I'm so happy you're back."

"Cath, you know I'll always be here to protect you. I'll always be here to keep you safe. Always. I love you."

"I love you too, dad. More than anything."

"As do I, love," He says and holds his hands in mine.

"Can you do me a favor?"

"Anything."

"Help me sit up a bit more, I'm feeling uncomfortable in this position."

I help him and he sighs happily.

"Thank you."

"Anything for you."

"Now come here, and give me a hug."

I laugh with glee and hug him.

He whispers in my ear, saying, "I couldn't move or open my eyes but I did hear things. And, I heard you. Know this, Cath, when you aren't able to lift yourself back up from a situation, someone else will, whether it be in person or in spirit. You are strong and it's okay to not always be strong, that's why we have friends, family. They remind us of who we are and they remind us that we are loved. I could write as many songs as I want to about you, about your mother, josh, but I don't think I can ever fully express how important you guys are to me. You're a part of me, and I'm a part of you. We're always connected, we'll always be connected."

I cry tears of joy and hug him a little tighter.

I was so blessed and grateful to have dad be my dad.

He would always be there, anytime, anywhere, any place. Whether it be in person, in spirit, or even a phone call away.

Tyler Joseph.

This beautiful human being that I call my father.
