Tony

I sat across from Agent Grant Ward, one of Coulson’s newbies. I didn’t like him. He was… odd. He walked around with confidence, but there was an underlying nervousness about him. He hid it well, but it was still there. It unnerved me. We were supposed to be working with these ‘Level 7’ recruits, and they still seemed like they were just finding their feet. No wonder Fury got Steve to distract Sam while they were working.

But she was definitely right about two things; they shouldn’t have tried to hack the servers, and Nick’s security was rubbish. How two RHOKA men managed to get onto the helicarrier, let alone into a SHIELD secure area, surprised me. Then again, it didn’t. Nick had been slacking off with the security lately.

A very tired-looking Sam walked into the control room, a worried-looking Steve jogging after her. She walked straight over to Nick, and spoke in low tones, starting with ‘For the love of sanity…’ Nick didn’t reply to anything that she said, and she huffed, walking back to her computer. She reached under the table, and plugged back in the two computers next to hers.

The two youngest of Coulson’s new group, who were both scientists of some sort, walked over to Sam. She raised an eyebrow at them when they extended their hands in greetings. Their faces fell, not seeing through the small test, before the girl smiled, flicking her hair back, and introducing herself, her British accent ringing clearly through the room.

‘Hello. You must be agent Clarke, I’m Fitz, this is Simmons.’ She said. I noticed Steve straightened up, his face falling as he heard her accent. I frowned for a moment, before I remembered; Agent Peggy Carter, the girl Steve fell for in the forties, was British. I looked at him sympathetically, noticing as his eyes fogged over, slipping into his memories. I shook my head slightly.

No one should be forced to do that. I kicked his foot under the table and he jumped, snapping back to reality. He looked around for a second, before his eyes landed on me.

‘What?’ he asked, his voice sounding gruff. He coughed once, leaning his mouth on his fist as he blinked, hard.

‘Does it get uncomfortable wearing tights and spandex all the time?’ I offered as a distraction. His head snapped in my direction, and he straightened up, raising an eyebrow.

‘And what is it that you wear under the suit, Tony?’ he asked, knowing that during all the trials of most of the suits, I wore a spandex body suit. I shrugged, leaning back in my seat.

‘My birthday suit.’ He chuckled slightly, and I fist-pumped internally. We weren’t exactly best friends or anything. But no-one deserved to relive their worst memories, or their best memories if they tore them apart. I glanced up at Sam, to see that she had turned back to the computers, trying to restore anything that may have been damaged. Fitz and Simmons were on either side of her, working away at the computers, as they chatted to each other.

I got up, and quietly made my way over to Sam, wanting to check that she was alright. I could see how much it hurt her to be attacked by Alex like that. I didn’t know it the others could see it, but he hadn’t stopped, not for a while. She hid it very well, but I was used to seeing that face, the one that hid the pain. I had taught myself it a long time ago. I gently put my hand on her shoulder.

She jumped a little, glancing up at me with a small, fleeting smile, before looking back to the screens, a small frown on her face. I leaned in close, unsure of how much Fitz and Simmons, Coulson’s two newbies, knew.
