Sam
I took a deep breath, and opened my eyes. Bright white lights shone down into them, waking me up with a burning sensation. I blinked furiously, trying to filter out some of the light.
I took a sharp breath, and looked around, my eyes adjusting slowly. I sat up slowly, surprised that I was in my own room, not the infirmary, or the cage. I almost wished that I was in the cage.
Alex had driven me to a complete loss of control. I should be being treated as a weapon, not a victim.
I dragged myself from the bed, and got changed, tying my hair up, before I left the room, walking straight to the control room, not even caring what I looked like. I walked towards the door of the control room, only to have a guard step in front of me, and block my way. I sighed, rolling my eyes.
‘I have neither the time, nor the patience to deal with this right now, now, can you step away, so I can do my job?’ I asked him, just as Steve came to the door.
‘Sam?’ he asked breathlessly. ‘You’re awake?’ he asked. I sighed.
‘No, I’m sleepwalking. Why do you look like you’ve just spent ages wondering if I’d ever…?’ I began, before noticing all the guards watching me carefully, their hands heading towards their weapons. Not one of them took their eyes off mine. Realisation hit me, and I looked back to Steve.
‘My eyes have changed again, haven’t they?’ I asked him, and he nodded carefully. I took a shaky breath and looked up at him.
‘Black, or the same reddish colour they went last time?’ I asked carefully. He watched me carefully, before answering.
‘Red again, but they’re slowly going back to normal. They’re not as bad as last time.’ He said, before nodding to the guards. ‘It’s fine, we can handle this.’ He told them, stepping up to me, and putting his hand between my shoulder blades, leading me into the control room.
‘Has anything happened?’ I asked, and he shook his head.
‘All quiet, but we’re sending in the bugs again. Tony stole your fly designs, and added a power source, and built them. They should be getting there now.’ He told me, as he led me to the computer again. Skye turned around with a smile.
‘Sam, you’re oka… Holy crap what’s wrong with your eyes?’ she asked, interrupting herself. I took a shaky breath, and looked to Steve unsure about what to say.
‘It doesn’t matter, Skye. Can you fill her in on what’s happened?’ Steve asked. Skye looked up to him, nodding, unsure.
‘Sure, sure.’ She said a little shakily. Steve leaned forward and whispered something in her ear. She nodded, pressing her lips together.
Steve looked to me, and sighed. ‘Stay here with Skye, ok? I’ll be back in a minute.’ He said, before kissing my cheek, and walking off. I looked after him, confused, before turning to Skye.
‘Are you alright?’ I asked her carefully. She nodded stiffly, forcing a smile.
‘Of course, why wouldn’t I be?’ she replied, just as shakily. I sighed, looking to the screens.
‘Just because I have a maniac thinking up and acting out creative ways to kill me, doesn’t mean that I’m dangerous, Skye. And the fact that my eyes have changed colour doesn’t mean anything either. If you had anything to worry about, they’d be black.’ I told her, and she nodded, sighing shakily.
‘So what’s going on, exactly?’ I asked her, and she shook her head, and turned to the screens as the live feed connected.
‘We’ll find out now.’ She said, as we watched the gunfire erupt before us. The people at the base seemed to turn on each other, everyone just shooting.
