I looked up at everyone as they celebrated. People were cheering, laughing, clinking glasses. But Sam wasn’t there. And no-one was watching the screens. And of them. I scuttled over to the edge of the desk, and climbed up onto the wall. I scuttled across the room, moving up the wall, before I moved across the ceiling, over the computers.

I dropped down in a wire, landing before it, and zoomed in on the screen. As I watched, I saw the screen turn red, a sign flashing as an alarm sounded. Incoming missile. Slowly the chatter quieted down, and Tony ran over to me.

‘She was right.’ He gasped, before shouting out to the room. ‘Incoming missile!’

The whole place scrambled to life, analysts running back to their computers, the Avengers running to suit up. Tony reached his hands out to pick me up.

‘Come here, little man.’ He said as I scrambled onto his hand, and he ran towards the suit room. Outside it, he let me crawl onto the wall, watching me sternly.

‘Freddie? I want you to find Sam. The second you do, you let us know, alright?’ he told me, and I beeped in affirmation. He nodded and ducked into the room. I ran to the corner at the top of the wall, and ran back to the control room.

As I did, I couldn’t help but think about Sam. She had created me, and now nobody knew where she was. But I remembered all that she had done, everything that she had programmed me to be able to do. And now I could see why she had done it. I connected myself to her computer wirelessly, and navigated her mainframe, before I got a live feed of the locations of everybody on the ship. I saw that she was on the second-to-lowest deck, on the starboard side, near the stern. I locked in on that, and jumped off the desk, running as fast as I could.

I climbed up the walls, and onto the ceiling, where I had an uninterrupted path, with no chances of being trampled. I watched the chaos, like it had jumped out of the screen showing the compound, and joined us in the helicarrier. I found the stairwell and went straight down, only now noticing that this was the same place that Loki had been attacked. Maybe there had been a weak spot in the ship.

Everyone was at their battle stations, and through the feeds from the security cameras around the ship, I estimated about two hundred and fifty soldiers, fighting against our three hundred and forty-seven. We outnumbered them, but we were surprised. We weren’t ready for a fight, let alone a battle.

An explosion sounded, shaking the ship, and causing more alarms to blare with claxons. The ship jolted once more, before it began to tilt to the side, making people stumble and trip as they ran through the halls. We were sinking to the sea, falling from the sky.

With a click, the coms started up, and I tuned into the conversations of the teams running about the ship.

‘Tony, where’s Sam?’ Steve called, and I froze, listening in.

‘Freddie’s on his way to her location… He’ll tell us when he finds her.’ Tony replied, interrupted by an explosion. ‘Just get these guys off this damn ship without being killed. I’ll…’ he stopped again, and the sound of his repulsors firing a few times, before being joined by the sound of an explosion.

The sound of the blast faded, before Tony spoke again, sounding a little short of breath.

‘I’ll make my way to you, we’ll take these guys out, and then we’ll go and find h…’ he was cut off by another explosion, and I scuttled along the corridor. I made my way to the stairwell, and swung down it on a thread of web. I reached the corridor, and watched as they walked from the room, locking it behind them.

Alex laughed, and lead them out a hole in the ship, where I could see the fast-approaching ocean. It looked like we were going to fall onto a reef, which was not good. Explosions sounded around the ship, and I heard quiet sobs amongst the chaos. I ran towards the door, and slipped under it. Sam was on the ground, in a pool of blood, crying as blood dripped from wounds in her side, leg and shoulder.

I ran over and crawled up on her leg, as I sent Tony our location.

‘Fredster, what’s going on there? Is that were Sam is?’ he asked, as Sam sniffed, looking up, and seeing me with a frown.

‘Freddie?’ she asked, her voice as soft as a whisper. I beeped once, before running up her arm, to her ear, where I folded in on myself, becoming an earpiece.

‘Freddie? What’s going on?’ Tony called.

‘Tony? It’s me.’ Sam said, her voice breaking slightly. Tony sighed in relief, and began talking to her, the sounds of his repulsors becoming less and less frequent.

‘Sam! Thank God! Where are you? The room on the second-lowest floor? Starboard side?’ he asked, and Sam sniffed, nodding.

‘Yeah. Tony, I…’ she began, before taking a shaky breath. ‘Alex is gone. And they’re trying to sink us.’ She said, her voice wavering a little. Tony sighed, his repulsors still going strong.

‘We know Sam. I’m making my way to Steve, and then we’ll be over to…’ His last words were cut off as something exploded above us, and the roof caved in. Sam screamed, cowering back, against the wall as support beams, and chunks of ceiling and floor fell into the room, blocking the path to the door.

‘Sam? Sam, are you ok? What happened?’ Tony asked. Sam let out a choking sob, and sniffed.

‘The ceiling just caved in. Tony, there’s no way through the door. A huge support beam just fell through and crushed it. It’s bent so there’s a gap up top, but there’s no way to climb over it.’ She said, breathing shallowly.

‘Sam, just breathe. We’re on our way to you now.’ He said, before calling out, his voice sounding a little way away.

‘Cap, let’s go! Now!’

More and more explosions sounded around me, before there was a huge, jolting crash, and the wall dented massively beside me. Sam shrieked in surprise and fear, completely terrified. I could tell that she had known that this was coming for a while. But she didn’t want to die. And she certainly didn’t want anyone else to fall, trying to save her.

She could hear water slamming against the wall behind her, the relentless explosions going off at a steady rate.

‘Tony?’ she called, her voice shaky and unsure.

‘You alright Sam? We’re on our way.’ He replied, and she sniffed.

‘Are they gone?’ she asked, her voice even quieter. There was a silence for a second, before Tony spoke.

‘We’re dealing with the last of them, but most of them seem to have jumped ship.’ He said, and she nodded.

‘Just hold on Sam. Just hold on.’
