‘I need a medic!’ Clint shouted from the coffee dock. Tony and I looked at each other, before springing from our seats, and running into him. We found him, on the ground, Nat unconscious in his arms, and a knife thrown on the floor, a little away from him. He looked up at us, narrow-eyed.

‘What happened?’ Tony asked, crouching down, on Nat’s other side. He put a hand gently on her forehead. Clint shook his head, gingerly brushing her hair back off her face.

‘I followed her in here, and found her with a knife to her wrist. When she noticed me there, she freaked out, like she hadn’t known what she was doing, then she collapsed.’ He gushed. I looked up as Phil ran up to the door, looking straight at me. He took a breath, before noticing Nat on the floor, and frowned.

‘She didn’t by any chance just try to kill herself, and then have no recollection of it. Did she?’ he asked through light pants. The three of us looked up at him, in disbelief. How did he know that? He sighed, frowning slightly, and looked to Clint.

‘Get her down to the hospital wing before her fever gets worse.’ He ordered, and Tony looked up from Nat, frowning.

‘How did you know…?’ he began, but Coulson cut him off, looking at me.

‘Captain, you’ll want to come with me.’ He told me, before leaving, quickly walking down towards the elevator. I looked to Clint and Tony.

‘You two alright here?’ I asked, not wanting to leave while Nat was unconscious. They nodded, and Tony waved me off.

‘Go.’ He said simply, as Clint took Nat into his arms, standing carefully.

I slipped past them, jogging to meet Coulson in the elevator, just before the doors closed.

‘Phil, what’s going on?’ I asked as we went down a floor. He looked to me, his eyes sad.

‘I’d love to know that myself, Captain.’ He said, before leading me out as the doors opened. He led me down, to an ICU room with glass walls and doors. I looked inside, and my breath caught in my throat. Sam was inside, unconscious in the bed, hooked up to life support, a heart monitor, and a drip. I pressed the button to open the door, and ran inside. I looked her over in disbelief. I had seen her not even an hour ago, and she was fine. Anger surged through me, and I looked up at Coulson, clenching my jaw.

‘What the hell happened?’ I asked him, before we were distracted, as Clint rushed through the elevator doors, Nat in his arms. Bruce directed him straight into the ICU room next to Sam’s, Tony running out of the elevator after him. The nurses began rushing about, trying to set up life support for Nat, when the elevator opened at the other end of the hall.

Johnny all but ran out, Lexi in his arms. He stopped dead, seeing Nat and Sam, and while I couldn’t hear it, I was sure that he cursed under his breath. One of the nurses directed him into the ICU room on the other side of the room Nat was in. The second he lay her down on the bed, he was shoved out of the room.

He ran his hands through his hair, looking freaked out, as he watched the nurses hook Lexi up to life support too. I gave Sam’s hand a squeeze, before walking out to him. He looked up at me, before his eyes fell, seeing Nat, and then Sam. He looked back to me, looking scared.

‘Cap, what the hell is happening?’ he asked. I looked back at him, unsure of what was happening myself. Suddenly, an alarm went off in Sam’s room. I sprinted back to her, to find two nurses, and a doctor already by her side. They took the breathing tube from her mouth, and she had a coughing fit.

Eventually, her breathing evened out, and she blinked furiously, looking around, confused.

‘Sam? Can you hear me?’ the doctor asked, shining a light in her eyes. She groaned, shoving the light away.
