I stood in the shadows across from the apartment.
She looked beautiful as ever.
Too bad I lost her.
She had something in her arms. It moved, but I didn't get a good look at it.
It must have made her happy, she was smiling from ear to ear.
I let out a sigh and I walked away, our lives were changed.
All of our plans together died, died with me.
I pulled the letter out of my pocket.
I read it again.
It was one of the earliest letters she wrote.
"One day away...I'll wear my best black dress...to show that I'm fine."
And she was wearing her best black dress, even though it looked new.
