Mallory asked me to cover her shift today, so by eight this Sunday morning I was waiting on people at the diner.
Nathaniel was there like always. I just ignored him. I didn't want to have memories brought up of my dad and his best friend, Jim.
Or in Nathaniel's point of view, his uncle, Jim.
Mallory once she sobered up enough came into work relieving me of my duty. She took over and I sat at the bar and I ate some pancakes her parents came out and gave to me.
She asked me how I got home.
I told her I got a ride from someone.
I feel guilty lying to my best friend.
But this is for the best right.
-Help me, Charlie
