Kenzie's POV

They got me a puppy.

It was a baby Golden Retriever Labrador mix.

He was so cute.

I walked into the apartment and I ran to my room to play with the pup as my mom and her now fiance carried the puppy's stuff into the place.

I decided I'd name my puppy, Oliver. But I would just call him Ollie.

I threw a miniture ball towards my closed door and Ollie chased after it clumsily.

I laughed he brought a smile to my face.

My mom definitely knew what to get me to cheer me up.

I crawled over to my new pup and I got the ball from him and I faced toward my new window where the fire escape was and I tossed the ball that way.

Ollie went after it and someone knocked on my window.

I looked out the window and my heart stopped.

I caught his gaze and I felt sick to my stomach.

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

He lifted the window up and gave me a soft smile.

I knew he wouldn't be able to get in. I would have to invite him in.

I stood there as emotions flew all around me.

"Can I come in?"

No no no. I was just starting to move on and he comes back.

I started to cry.

I knew he tried to come in when I heard a cuss.

I very quietly said, "Come in."

Next thing I knew he was holding me as I cried into his chest. My door was locked and Ollie had fallen asleep on the floor where the ball had rolled.

I missed Charlie so much I didn't care right now. All I needed was to be held and let the emotions out.

I managed to get up and I turned on some music to no one could hear what was going on.

I climbed back into his arms and I cried more.

I missed the gentle touch of my best friend comforting me.

Whatever hate I had for him at the moment, dissipated.

I stopped crying and before I could wipe the tears out of my eyes his hand gentle ran over my face. The coldness felt nice.

Then I slapped him. As hard as I could. Then I punched him until I had no energy left.

He did nothing, he just took it all in letting me do whatever I wanted. When I started to get tired he grabbed my wrists and held them keeping me up instead of colliding into his chest.

"I have something very important to tell you, but you are tired go to bed. I will tell you in the morning. I'll put Ollie in his crate and I'll take him out while you sleep. I know I've been gone so long, but I'll explain tomorrow."

In between soft whimpers I asked him if he could fall asleep next to me like old times. I knew I was heading down a dangerous road, but I couldn't let him out of my site. I was beyond pissed, but it was Charlie for gods sake.

I got ready for bed as Charlie began to take care of my puppy for me. Seeing him was just exhausting.

But he was back.

I laid in bed for a couple of minutes before I felt the bed dip besides me.

Sometimes actions spoke louder than words. And tonight they spoke louder than any words I could speak.

He pulled me close to him and entangled a hand in my hair and wrapped the other one around my waist.

If my life were a movie, I believe a slow song would be queued to start and the camera would pan out as I fell asleep.

And that's what I imagined as I drifted off to sleep. I'd deal with Charlie tomorrow.
