Lucy

I've stayed up all night trying to find any reports on Natsu's father's kidnapping. I've spent the entire week trying to find something useful. The only time I'm not doing so is when I was at school, but still stressing about it. I've barely had any sleep too.

It's Saturday morning and I just finished my little singing practice with Mira– which she has me do everyday. Some days Jellal would come over so we can practice our duet.

I'm taking a little break from trying to find some sort of lead. This is all so crazy. Why am I even doing this? I'm only seventeen and a senior in high school. I never expected myself to be so determined to help someone I met the beginning of this month.

I should be worrying about the Halloween Dance that's in nine days but that's way in the back of my mind.

Now I'm here lying on the couch and watching some tv. Maybe I should take a nap. Yeah a nap sounds nice. I need some sleep. My eyes are getting droopy too.

Hopefully I won't sleep the entire day.

Eh it's the weekend anyways it doesn't matter.

Nice...nice...sleep...here I come...

My phone vibrated.

What the fu–

From: Sting-Bee
Yo!

It vibrated again.

From: Sting-Bee
You hungry?

And again.

From: Sting-Bee
Actually don't even answer that yo fatass is always hungry, be ready in 30

He's not wrong.

With a loud groan I force myself off the couch.

What the hell man, I really wanted some sleep!

Food does sound nice actually.

To: Sting-Bee
Alright you prick

–––

"I brought my wallet this time!"

"Congratulations! Look at you, seventeen years old and remembering to bring her wallet when going out!"

Sucking my teeth, I punch him in the arm. He's just like Laxus, both assholes sometimes, but in a funny way.

"Nah but seriously, where do you want to go eat? I've been driving in circles."

"How about 8-Island? I heard that one of my grandpas friends own the place."

–––

"It's not too packed so that's good."

We were seated in at a table next to the window. 8-Island is cute and small, almost reminding me of Mira's cafe, but a lot less purple.

"Can I get the chocolate chip Belgium waffles with some strawberries and whipped cream," I order. I've been craving some waffles for a while.

"Can I get the French toast with peaches and some whipped cream, too," Sting orders.

The waitress nods, scribbling down our order before walking off.

"Oi, you don't look too good."

"I wouldn't expect to with the hour sleep I had."

"Sass much, shit. Why didn't you get any sleep?" He grabs his glass of water, taking a sip.

"I'm trying to find a lead on my friends fathers kidnapping." He slightly chokes, nearly dropping the glass. I lift a brow, why is he surprised?

"Who's this friend?"

"I'm not sure if you know him but his name is Natsu."

"Dragneel? Of course I know him, we've been best-friends since we were really little!" Oh wow, small world. "So why are you helping–"

Sting stops because our food arrives. Mr.Yajima is the one serving!

I smile at him, "Good Morning Mr.Yajima, remember me?" He glanced at me, then did a double take.

"Look at you Little Lucy! How've you been, child? Last time I've seen you you were about my size!" I give him a hug after he places down our food.

"I've been well, thanks. How are you doing?"

"I've been doing great! Especially with this restaurant running perfectly!" He looks at Sting, who looks a bit confused. Mr.Yajima's eyes widen, weird.

"I told you that he's a friend of my grandpa. I met him one day Gramps brought him to the house many years ago." He nods and starts eating.

"W-well I'm going to let you folks eat," he takes a step back. "...I guess this is what you call fate," he mutters, so low that I couldn't hear him but I'm certain Sting did.

A few minutes pass when Sting starts talking, "So anyways, why are you helping Natsu?"

I put my fork down and take a sip of my water.

"I don't even know, myself. I just felt this determination when he told me about it," I pause, looking at Sting in the eye. "I think I just don't want him to feel how not having a parent feels like. I lost my mother and it's definitely not a nice feeling." I look back down at my plate, taking a chunk of the waffle and shoving it in my mouth.

"...I've never met my mother. It's always been me and my father." My eyes meet his and we smile sadly at each other.

Sting shakes his head, "Anyways, about the fathers kidnapping, I hear that it was a gang that did that. More specifically, a Mafia." Looking in his eyes, I see one emotion that shocks me– fear.

"Do you know the Mafia?"

"N-no... Hey lets t-talk about this over some ice cream. You owe me, remember?"
