I'm Stephanie Fray and I was an orphan at the age of six years old because my parents died, my mother from giving birth to me and my father from committing suicide just before my sixth birthday. I was at the orphanage for three months but ran away because I was seeing kids with weird abilities and kids with claws instead of fingers but no one believed me. All they saw were normal hands, I myself was doing things I couldn't understand. For the next seven years I was living from food scraps from a dumpster in an alley behind a restaraunt where a cardboard box was my house.

So everyday for years I never really had anyone to talk to where I even forgot that I could speak, in winter I would look for clothes that I could wear to stay warm. For years all I knew was I needed to eat sleep and survive... that was all I could think of. Every now and then three boys come walking from a school just to bully and beat me up everyday. They started in elementary and are now in middle school, after the first few months it was like a daily routine for me. One day in winter they were hitting me harder than usual and I was at the verge of breaking, emotionally and physically.

Then I heard someone yell, "Hey don't hit her!" at the boys and I had my face covered to protect myself from being hurt so I couldn't see who said it. I then heard the first boy say, "What, are you gonna do, attack us with your pigtails?" It's a girl? I then heard a bunch of punches and people falling on the ground, I decided to look up and I saw all three boys on the floor crying and bleeding from their noses. The boys decided to get up and ran off, the girl then started walking towards me and I closed my eyes getting ready for another beating.

I then heard her open her backpack and felt something warm wrap around me and the girl ask me, "Are you okay?" I opened my eyes and she was smiling. She had long beautiful brown hair and a lillac colored backpack, I looked at what was on me and it was a white blanket with bunnies on them. It's so soft I kept rubbing my face on the silk like material, "Hey?" I was startled and looked at the girl. "*Giggling*I asked are you okay?" she asked while moving my incredibly long hair from my face.

I looked at her smiling face and I said, "Y-yea" she got out a piece of cloth from her backpack and wet it with her water bottle and started wiping the blood of my face. She then said, "Wow your hair is long, when was the last time you cut your hair?" I looked down and said, "I-I don't know the last time it was cut was when those boys cut it really short." She looked surprised and said, "What? Why do you let those kids bully you." I shrugged my shoulders and stayed quiet.

I saw her reach into her backpack and pulled out scissors then said, "Well, I'm going to be your barber for today." I closed my eyes and heard my hair being cut off, while cutting she asked "Hey what's your name?" I grapped a wrinkled name tag they gave me in the orphanage. I held it up and she said, "Stephanie, nice to meet you Stephanie I'm Janice." After a few minutes she grabbed my hand and brought me up to a window and said, "Okay open your eyes, look." I opened them and my hair was cut up to my upper back just above my elbow. The girl swept off the extra hairs off my large grey shirt that was like a dress for me, "There don't you think you look pretty now?"

I started crying and it startled the girl, "Whoa, hey why are you crying?" I wiped the tears off my face and asked, "W-why are you being so nice to me?" I felt her hand patting my head when she said, "Because, that's what friends do." I looked at her and asked, "Were friends?" She smiled and nodded, "Yea, sure why not." We talked for hours and every day she would bring me food and new clothes and teach me what she learned in school. The boys never came when she was there until for one whole week she had to go away to visit family.
