CHAPTER 18
K POV:I think about what just happened and how Scar caught up to us just in time. I didn't even notice that I was vamping out after the event had ended. Yeah I felt better, but I thought it was out of relief that both Vik and Harry survived the first task. I didn't realize my eyes had started to turn silver and my fangs were close to showing. That was too close a call for comfort.
I'm going to have to make sure that I hunt as much as I can on full moon nights, even if I do hate myself for afterwards. It's the only way I'll be able to keep anyone from finding out, and to make sure that I don't lose it and bite someone by mistake. I hear Hagrid walking up to the doors and I beat him to opening it as I step out into the light of the moon and we head down to the forest together.
FEW WEEKS LATER---2ND WEEK OF DECEMBER
K POV:"Has George asked you to the dance yet?"
"No, I just kind of assumed we were going together. Am I wrong?"
"I don't know. I was just wondering. Donovan asked me this morning after our run. It was so cute, he handed me a rose and asked if he could have my arm for the dance. His English is almost as rough as Vik's used to be."
"Aww I'm so happy for you Scar. Vik's got his date now too."
"No way! Who?"
"You tell a soul I'll bite you."
"Cross my heart I won't."
"He asked Hermione. Apparently he thinks she's really pretty and really likes her. I don't think he's ever said that about any girl he's talked to before."
"Oh my-"
"Not a soul Scar!"
"Ok, ok. I do have a question for you though. When's the next full moon?"
"Day after the dance. I may ask Hagrid to escort me to the forest the day before the dance, just so I don't look like crap. That would not be the best way to make memories with George."
"No kidding."
We wave bye as she heads to divination and I head to ancient runes class. I'm starting to get worried about George asking me to the dance. I mean we've been dating for almost two months, so why wouldn't we go together. It's just, he's been acting really weird the last few days and the ball is only six days away. Maybe he's waiting until Hogsmeade this weekend to ask, but I would kind of like to know before then since I'll need a dress.
I find my mind drifting during runes class and after a while I just give up. Today is the last day of classes and I think that most of the professors know that we aren't really paying attention to the lessons they prepared today. Though they've certainly tried to make us with the amount of homework they're giving over the holidays. I start daydreaming about the dance again and about the day Professor McGonagall announced the dance.
She had Ron practice the traditional dance that everyone will have to do with her. I couldn't even pay attention to what the steps were because Fred and George were too busy making me laugh about Ron. Harry wasn't much help either though, he was laughing just as hard as I was. I'm not the only one without an official date yet though. Harry and Ron still don't have partners and Harry is supposed to lead the dance with the other champions. Poor thing, he's scared to ask any of the girls he knows and most already have dates now even if he did ask. I think he may have actually asked Cho to the ball, but she had already said that she would go with Cedric. Harry did better against the dragon than he's doing getting a date at this point.
I tune back into class just in time to hear the Professor say no homework as a Christmas gift and dismiss class twenty minutes early. I think he has just become my favorite professor at Hogwarts. I pack up my stuff and make my way to the Gryffindor common room. After I climb through the portrait hole and into the common room I freeze. I see my name plastered on banners, pieces of parchment, and what appear to be bed sheets. The ink that it's written in keeps changing colors from blue to silver to red and gold back to blue.
I see Fred in the corner take a picture but I still can't get my feet to move. Why is my name plastered all over the common room? I look over at Fred who taps the stairs to the boys dorm with his wand and George walks down. I watch as he swings his wand around the room and my names start to change until it reads "Katherine, will you go to the ball with me?"
I stand there and see George kneeling on the floor in front of me with a small smile on his face holding a handful of lilies, that he probably swiped from Professor Sprouts' greenhouse, out to me. I feel myself smile as I nod and he stands up kisses me. I hear the wolf whistles and I think Ron yell out 'Not again' but we don't stop until Fred yells.
"Oi! Alright love birds. Move it. It's my turn and she's going to be here any second."
I laugh a bit as he starts running around and changing the banners to read Angelina's name. I smile as George and I wait in the same corner Fred was in a few seconds. George has the camera in his hand as Fred dashes upstairs for the flowers and to make a good entrance when she walks in. I see the portrait door swing open and she walks in with Alicia and Lee. She freezes and I wonder if the look on my face was the same as hers. George snaps the picture and taps the staircase like Fred did.
Like true Weasley twins, the only difference in the way they asked us to the ball was the type of flowers we got. Scar knew my favorite were lilies, while Angelina's were roses. Who knows how much trouble the boys would be in with Sprout if she ever finds out they broke into a greenhouse just to get flowers for their potential dates. But honestly I think Angelina and I secretly agree it was worth the risk they took, because the flowers were lovely.
George's POV:
"Can you believe our luck they both said yes?"
"As if yours would have said no. You're already dating her."
"True."
I smile some as Fred throws a fake wand at me for smirking at him earlier. I want to pick up something special for her in Hogsmeade this weekend. I borrowed money from Charlie after sending him an owl about getting Kat a Christmas present. He told me not to worry about paying it back, but I will as soon as Fred and I get our jokes up and running and for sale.
Now I just need to figure what to get her. I bet Scar would know. I jump off the bed and head down to the common room to see if she's there. I see her sitting by the window writing a letter, probably to that Donovan guy she's been hanging out with. I smirk some as I sit beside and she quickly covers up the letter.
"Hello George. Can I help you?"
"Yes Scar, actually you can. What would Kat like for Christmas?"
"Ummm, well I'm not actually sure. I can tell you what she likes and you can try to wing it like the rest of us if that works?"
"I'll take whatever I can get."
"Well, she's never really been fond of flashy stuff but she does like simple stuff like rings and necklaces. She just doesn't many she likes to wear. Her family is more extravagant in the gifts they give, so she only wears it around them. Clothes are too risky to but for her, I don't even bother. She likes to read some, so maybe a book on magical creatures? Those are her favorites. Does that help at all? Sorry, I'm in the same boat. I'm just giving her a book, some gloves, and some candy."
"No, that may actually be really helpful. Thanks Scar."
"No problem George."
I wave by as I walk back up the stairs. So she likes simple stuff. Maybe I could find her a ring. Better make it a necklace though, I don't want to scare her off with a ring. I could make it a promise ring, but I don't even know if she'd want one this soon. Maybe I should have asked Scar that as well.
Oh well, looks like I'm stuck waiting until I see what they have tomorrow at Hogsmeade. If I see something that looks like her I'm going to have to but it no matter if it's a ring or not. I know she likes lions, which fits with our house, but I don't want to just get here house theme stuff. I'll just wing it tomorrow. I hear Fred snoring as I walk into the room and I soon climb into bed so that I'll be ready to go tomorrow.
