CHAPTER 40
K POV:It's been......strange these last few days. I was given more information on my 'assignment' for the Order of the Phoenix, as Dumbledore had called it. The clan I am meeting in Bulgaria was led by a man just over 700 years old, called Aleric. The other clan in Transylvania was also led by a man of around 300 years, called Talan. Dumbledore had met Aleric only once when he was younger and had never met Talan. Somehow I felt better about meeting Aleric because of that news.
I would leave for Bulgaria first, and spend a week or two with them, gathering information and seeking their alliance. I would then report to Dumbledore at the headquarters of the Order, which he had told me a few days earlier. I was actually surprised that the headquarters was literally only a few houses down from my own new house in London.
My family did not know that I had agreed to do this and I am not planning on telling them or anyone for that matter if I can help it. Especially George, he doesn't need to spend his summer worrying about me. I already know he'll probably be worried when I don't immediately write back to him, but I'll be having all my mail go straight to my house. I don't want owls following me through vamp country.
I finish getting ready for today, the end of the year feast, and head downstairs. It's not full with laughter as I've grown used to over the last few months. Rather everyone down there is quiet and sullen looking. I walk up to George and Fred, with Scar coming up behind me. I know that she knows I'm doing something for Dumbledore this summer but like the twins she hasn't asked me about it directly. I'm thankful for that as I grip George's hand and we all walk down to the feast together.
Vik spots us as we walk in and sits down next to me, with George on my other side. The feast is eaten rather quietly, the hall decorated in a fashion to remember and honor Cedric. At the end of the feast Dumbledore stands up and states what happened to Cedric and we all raise a toast to honor him. I hadn't realized until I had to raise a toast that I was gripping both George and Vik's hands in my own. I didn't cry, but I was very close to crying.
After the feast, everyone heads outside to load into the carriages and board the train. I hug Vik before he leaves and he makes me promise to write and stay safe this summer. I make him promise the same as he and the other boys travel back to school without Karkaroff, who fled shortly after Harry came back from the graveyard.
"I vant to hear vou say vou vill be safe this summer."
"I will be Vik. I might even come visit."
"I vould like that. I vill miss you."
"I will miss you too Vik."
I hug him again before he walks over to the trio and says farewell to them. As we load up into the carriages I watch as the Beauxbatons carriage takes off, just as the ship fires it cannons and sinks back into the lake. I feel George kiss the top of my head and I can't help but smile and I lean into his chest. Scar and Fred starting to joke around across from us in the carriage. All too soon we're on the train headed back to the real world.
"You will write to me won't you love?"
"Of course I will George, but I will have stuff to do with my family that will keep me busy as well. They will visit more often after I tell them what happened."
I feel a twinge of guilt as I lie to him, but he doesn't notice he simply nods his head a bit before looking at me smiling as he kisses me. I smile into the kiss, even as I realize it may be one of the last kisses I get from him for a while. We start walking down the corridor and see Malfoy and his minions taunting someone. We all listen closer and realize he's taunting Harry. Before anyone can say anything we all pull out our wands and send a mass of hexes at them, each hitting one of them with a nasty hex.
