Your P.O.V
"I can take care of another kid?!" Zoey asked/yelled when we told her our idea.
"Um... I guess?" Travis said.
Zoey went blank for a second before squealing like crazy.
"Why do you sound like nails on a chalkboard?!" I said while Travis and I clamped our hands on our ears.
"I'm sorry! But this is amazing! I've been wanting to do it again for years!" She said with more excitement than the first ten times she told us that.
"Alrighty then." Travis said before leaving the basement when Katelyn called his name.
I felt a small sting in my chest but tried to ignore it as best as I could.
"Hey, lady." I heard Eliot said. I turned around to face him. He was sitting on Zoey's desk and drawing in her notebook. It was a picture of a dog, probably a portrait of Celestia.
"Yeah?" I asked. "I don't know your name." He simply stated. I paused for a minute before smacking myself on the head and letting out a nervous chuckle.
"Right. Sorry, my names (Y/N)." I replied. "I like that name!" He said with a smile.
Zoey and I laughed for a bit before I crouched down to Eliot's level.
"So, when do you want to learn to fight?" I asked him. He gasped and smiled from ear to ear before dropping his quill and leaping out of his seat.
"Now!" He exclaimed with pure excitement.
I chuckled before placing him in my shoulders. "Well, let's go!" I said before making my way outside into the fresh air.
We walked to the old Phoenix Drop and found an old guard tower. It seemed pretty stable, and was littered with swords and armor.
"Pick up something cool and meet me on the top floor, okay." I said. He nodded as his eyes lit up.
He ran into the piles of weapons and started to rummage around while I climbed the ladder upstairs.
I paused on the ladder, and thought for a moment. I just left a child in a room full of weapons. Could he hurt himself?
"Nah." I said before finishing the climb.
There were four lookout points, and a nice big open space in the middle of the floor.
I moved the large oak table out of the way and threw the chairs out the window. I know I could've just set them down somewhere else, but where's the fun in that?
I heard creaking before I turned around to see Eliot standing there with something behind his back.
"Did you pick one?" I asked. He nodded his head and showed me the weapon.
Of all the things he picks, he picks a bow and arrow.
He had grabbed a wooden bow with an ancient design carved into it, and a leather strap on the middle for his hand. The string looked like it was about to snap in half, but he started to pull on it, and it stayed.
The arrows looked pretty standard, but the feathers had black, orange, brown, and red designs on them.
"I've seen this one before! I've always wanted to use one!" He said with a sparkle in his hopeful eyes.
"I don't know, it's pretty dangerous..." I trailed off.
"Pretty please?" He said while putting his hands together as if he were praying.
I sighed before ruffling his hair. "Fine."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" He exclaimed. He engulfed the lower half of my body in a hug.
I hesitated. Why is he hugging me? He's not... scared? But I radiate dark energy...
I slowly wrapped my arms around his little figure and grabbed the bow.
"So, you're gonna want to grab it like this..." And with that, I was training an eight year old how to use a deadly weapon.
Adorable.
------Time Skip------
"Try and hit this can." I said while setting a can up on the table. After weeks of training, he was finally shooting from across the room. He nodded before grabbing an arrow and gracefully placing it in the bow and pulling it back with his middle and forefinger.
He started to move the bow around a bit before stopping and taking a deep breath.
He let the arrow go, and it zipped past my body and hit the edge of the table, right next to the can.
"So close!" I said with excitement. He nodded and got ready to shoot again. He raised the bow the slightest bit before letting the arrow go again.
It went right through the can and yanked it backwards, making it stick to the wall.
"Perfect!" I said with happiness as I picked him up so that he could hug me correctly.
"I did it! I did it!" He kept chanting. I was laughing at his immaturity.
"Wait, one more thing." I said and placed him down while crouching so I could see him eye to eye.
"Never celebrate on the battlefield. It shows weakness and vulnerability." I said with seriousness.
He nodded and saluted with two fingers. I chuckled and let him jump on my back.
"Let's go eat, I'm starving!" I said. He nodded in agreement and gave me an eyes closed smile.
"Hold on tight!" I said as I jumped down the ladder. Right when we were about to hit the floor, I grabbed onto a stick.
We stopped in time and were a few feet off the ground. I realized he was burying his head in my hair, and I made a little 'psst' sound.
"You can open your eyes now." I whispered. He slowly opened his left eye and looked around before making a 'wow' sound.
I got us on the ground and kept him on my back. "Can we do that again?!" He asked with glee.
"I'm not sure, I feel like I'm about to throw up! Irene do I feel sick to my stomach!" I said sarcastically. He looked really sad for a minute before jumping off my back.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" He said while he looked like he was about to cry.
"I'm fine! I was kidding!" I said. He looked down.
"What's wrong?" I asked him. I crouched down and he looked at me.
"My mommy wasn't fine. She lied to me and told me she was okay, but she wasn't. Daddy told me that she was sick. And now he says that mommy is in a better place." I pulled him into a hug while frowning.
"I just don't want you to leave me too..." He said. "You're like my big sissy." He pulled back to look at me. I saw that he was crying.
I smiled. "Don't worry, I'll never leave! I promise!" I said whilst trying to brighten the mood.
"Pinkie promise?" He said while holding his pinkie out. I chuckled. "Pinkie promise." I said while interlocking his little finger with mine.
He smiled and hugged me again. It scared me so I made a little 'oof' sound. I did return the hug after a minute. "You're so nice sissy!" He said. I felt blank for a second before a warm feeling was in my chest. I have a family again.
"Can we eat now?" He asked after we let go.
"Of course!" I said while holding his hand and walking back to the tree.
