~~~~CHAPTER 23~~~~
Finding Nothing~~~~
~~~~Zacky's Point of View~~~~

"Hey man, how're we doing over here?" I heard Matt say, making both me and Nero look over.

Matt gave me a smile as he and Jessie reached the gate, Jessie climbing over as Matt just stayed on the other side, leaning against the gate as he looked at me.

"We're fine," I said in response as Jessie came over, holding her jacket around herself as a bit of rain started falling. "You guys find anything?"

Matt shook his head as Nero jumped down off the hood of the car and looked to Matt.

"Can I come help? Might need a fresh set of eyes to look around the place," Nero said.

Matt gave a nod and Nero grinned back, climbing over the gate quickly and landing on the other side near Matt who was still leaning against the gate. He indicated for Nero to follow him as he pushed off the gate and gave a subtle wink my way before heading off towards the barn, most likely in search of Brian and Jimmy.

Jessie gave me a smile as she sat down on the hood of the car. I was still just leaning against the car, and she patted the place on the hood next to her.

"How's the ankle holding up?" she asked as I opened the car door and put my crutches on the back seat before coming over to join her, making sure not to put any pressure on my injured ankle; luckily it wasn't too far to go to get to the hood of the car.

"Yeah, it's holding up fine," I said, wincing a slight bit as I got up onto the hood of the car next to her; there wasn't much room, so we were once again rather close like earlier on in the day. I looked to her. "So do they even know what they're meant to be looking for?"

Jessie shrugged, shivering a slight bit as the wind picked up.

"I think they have a general idea," she said with a bit of a smile, making me smile back and look down. "They're mostly just looking for something to get rid of the ghost; anything they can really."

I nodded in understanding, feeling a bit bad about not being able to help out a bit more. Even though I hadn't wanted to be here, I still wanted to try and help out somehow. We sat there in silence for a few minutes; I just watched as Matt and Nero tried to find a way into the barn, Johnny jogging over to them to follow along.

"So anyway..." Jessie began, making me look to her, a bit of a curious look on my face. She looked away shyly. "Was just wondering something..."

"Shoot; what's on your mind?" I said, looking at her and seeing her face start to turn red again.

She hesitated, but made herself look up and meet my gaze.

"Just wondering if maybe...I dunno..." she began, clearly finding it a bit hard to ask what was on her mind; I found myself actually smiling a bit.

"What?" I asked, seeing as she smiled and looked away again. "C'mon, y'know you can ask whatever's on your mind; I'm not gonna judge whatcha say."

Jessie gave me a smile, making herself look back to me and hold my gaze.

"I was wondering if maybe after this you'd wanna hang out for a bit," she managed to make herself say, looking down with a bit of a smile.

"Even though there might still be a ghost haunting me?" I asked with a laugh, making her giggle a bit.

"I thought it was with Matt now, not you," she said with another giggle, looking up at me and making me smile in amusement.

"Well, then I guess I'm available after this' done and we get back," I said, making her grin at me.
