~~~~CHAPTER 13~~~~
Incidents Happen~~~~
Amy and I both watched as Matt tried to build up the courage to actually try to turn the phone off. We didn't know if we were thinking into this too much; maybe we were over exaggerating and nothing was about to happen when Matt touched the phone. We were being scared teenagers with an over-active imagination; there was no such thing as ghosts, right?
Matt shifted his position and knelt in front of the phone, clearly stalling. He took a deep breath and reached forwards. As soon as his hand touched the phone, he pulled it back in alarm.
"Holy fuck; I can't even touch that," he said, holding his arm as he winced in pain. "Jesus, what the hell?"
"Whatcha mean you can't touch it?" I asked, feeling really stupid for asking the question. "It's a phone Matt."
Matt shot me a glare. "You fuckin' touch it then if you're so fucking sure."
I just stayed quiet this time and Matt sighed, turning his attention back to the constant ringing of the phone; he knew neither Amy nor I were game enough to touch it. He took a breath again and shook his head, clearly trying to psych himself up to touch it again and try to silence it.
He muttered something to himself and shook his head again before he once again reached forwards to try and turn off the phone.
Amy and I both watched as he tried to hold back a cry of pain as he quickly tried to reject the call. When nothing happened, Matt pulled his hand away, shaking his head.
"I'm not touching that again," he said, clearly in pain now as he held is arm against himself. "This's bullshit; it won't stop and it's putting out too much...electricity...to do anything without getting seriously hurt."
"So what're we gonna do?" I asked, once again feeling really thick for asking.
"Why's it ringing? Same fucking question; we don't know!" Matt snapped, looking to me as Amy just looked on. "The answer's I don't know!" He looked back to the phone. "It shouldn't be electrified like that; fuck sake."
A few seconds later, the phone finally stopped ringing and I saw as Matt just froze.
"That mean he's gone?" Amy asked cautiosuly.
Matt shook his head, clearly thinking ahead.
"It means he's probably given up for a few hours or minutes and he'll be back," he said, his eyes still on the phone. "Or he's fucking with us and about to move onto something else..."
He trailed off and both Amy and I saw him thinking.
"Think it's safe to touch?" I asked, not liking the sudden silence we'd been thrown into.
"Only one way to find out," Matt said, reaching forwards without another care.
He yelped in surprise and pulled his hand back, Amy and I just watching as he sat there, looking a slight bit dazed.
"I think we should let that...cool off," he said vacantly.
"What just happened?" Amy asked as Matt turned his wrist over.
"It zapped me," he said, shaking his head as he looked at his wrist. "Jesus Christ..."
Amy and I both saw his wrist and what he was looking at. Right from the wrist to his forearm was burnt; his arm red and raw from the current that'd gone through him from the phone.
"We should getcha to the hospital; get that checked over and see what they can do," Amy said, quickly going over to Matt and helping him to his feet as he just looked at his arm; completely stunned. "Lucky that didn't kill you."
