~~~~CHAPTER 29~~~~
Finding the Grave~~~~
"Jessie, can I come in and help yet?"
Nero knocked on the door again, clearly wanting to help out. Jessie rolled her eyes, staying against me as she clicked on another webpage that looked like it could be of use to us.
"Maybe we should let him in," I suggested, Jessie looking up at me from her current position. I shrugged, keeping my arm around her. "I mean, you said so yourself that he could help out when he was done."
"Technically I never said that," she said, making me smile in amusement as she shifted her position and sat up a bit more, making me remove my arm from where it'd been resting against her. "I told him to do his homework."
"But you also said you wann'ed him to help," I pushed, knowing Jessie didn't want him in the room as long as I was here; I felt bad that she was pushing Nero out though and I knew he wanted to help out whatever way he could. "But you wann'ed him to do his assignment first."
Jessie sighed as Nero knocked on the door once more.
"I know you can hear me Jess; c'mon, I wanna help!"
"Ok, fine then," Jessie said, putting her laptop down on the bed. "I'll go let him in and he can help."
I smiled at her, Jessie far from impressed.
"Hey, c'mon," I said. "Smile; don't be like that."
Jessie just rolled her eyes, a bit of a smile on her face as she sat up properly and got off the bed, startling her dog awake as she went over to the door and I stayed where I was. She opened the door and moved aside, letting Nero in.
He automatically came over to where I was, sitting down on the bed next to me and giving me a smile. I smiled back as Jessie shut the door and came back over, sitting down on the bed again and grabbing her laptop.
"Alright, so we haven't found anything just yet," she said as she once again sat right against me, making me move and put my arm around her again, Nero smiling a bit at the gesture. "We keep getting the same articles and whatnot and I think we've hit a dead end."
Nero nodded, indicating that he was keeping up. He looked to Jessie.
"Mom's home by the way," he said, Jessie just shrugging. He looked to me. "So what can I do to help out?"
I shrugged, looking at the laptop as Jessie scrolled through the article she'd found; it looked like one we'd already come across at least twice.
"Honestly, no idea right now," I said with a shake of my head. "My eyes are fucking up so I can't even read this shit right now. Think you could go grab my bag for me?"
Nero nodded and was instantly off the bed, grabbing my bag from where I'd left it when I'd come into Jessie's room. He handed it to me and I nodded my thanks, removing my arm from Jessie and making her sit up again. Searching through my bag, I found what I was after, grabbing my glasses case and taking it out, Nero happily taking my bag and putting it back where he'd gotten it from.
I put my glasses on, able to actually read what was on the screen now.
"Alright, now I can see what we're looking at," I said, Jessie lying down on me again. "Haven't we already seen this article?"
Jessie nodded. "I think so; just thought there could be something else in it. You never know with these reporters; they write the same things but add a few different things in every so often."
"Alright, fair enough," I said, sighing and taking my glasses off. "Just let me know if you need my help with reading through something."
Jessie nodded in return, not saying anything as I looked at the time on my phone, seeing it was nearing eight and that I had a text from Matt. I put my glasses back on to read what he'd sent my way.
