- three weeks later-
I had absolutely nothing to wear. Ripping every outfit out of my closet, throwing them across the room told me I hadn't bought anything with much color. Sighing I grabbed the only thing that would work, it was a simple mid thigh black and gray striped dress. It was soft and it worked with my brown ankle boots. Slipping into it I shifted to my human form, glancing at the mirror, my eyes seemed lighter, but held a darker tone. I was hiding a secret from Max, but he could never find out. Forcing a smile on my face I grabbed a jacket and my cellphone. Slipping out of my room I headed over to the elevator, I didn't feel like telling Red or Liz I was going out, if I did they would end up following me, which wasn't something I wanted to happen. Hitting the top floor I all but sprinted out of the building, maybe the nice guards wouldn't say to them that I had left if they went looking for me. Pulling out my cellphone I hit the dial button,
" Hello?"
" Hey Max, I'm on my way."
" Awesome, do you want me to pick you up?"
" Ah...no. it's fine walking is good for me."
" You sure? I don't mind. Besides it'll be fun."
" Actually...can you pick me up? I don't think I would want to walk all the way."
He laughed, quickly giving him the address of where I was standing he hung up. This was the worst way to start off a night.
-time skip-
Max had picked me up, saying that I was a sight for sore eyes, which that wasn't something I wanted to hear...I was a lie. A big ugly lie. Sitting at the dinner table I couldn't help but smile when Max came dancing over with two coffees and a waiter trailing behind him. He set down the coffee and sat down, the waiter placed salad in front of me and a steak in front of Max..I wanted steak.
" How come I got the salad? I didn't even order yet.."
I asked, looking at him. Max shrugged and started to eat,
" Because I thought that's what you like. I mean you are a girl. So you have to eat that stuff."
Nope, done. That was just, wow.
" So Eleanor, what do you like to do in your spare time?"
Oh you know, train to use my powers, hang out with my fish friend and throw fireballs with my demon brothers girlfriend.
" Read. I love reading with my friend. He and I have know each other forever."
He glanced up, something flashing in his eyes.
" How long have you know him? Does he have a girlfriend?"
Shrugging I thought about how old I must appear to the man, eighteen, no more than my early twenties, so I went with the best possible answer,
" Eh since I was about five. And no, he doesn't find anyone to his liking. But that's Abe for you, he would rather read than talk to you, well unless you were asking about a book, then you wouldn't get him to shut up."
Max looked pissed down, his eyes kept flickering to my face then back down to his hands. Which was gripping the knife hard. I reached for the coffee and downed it in three large gulps. Taking a deep breath I tried to continue the conversation,
" What about you Max, what do you like to do in your spare time?"
He was shaking,
" I like to write, but you wouldn't care about that now. How about you keep talking about Abe, because all you like to do is talking about Abe. ABE ABE ABE!"
