Chapter8 - True Fan

"We're leaving town Sunday morning." Liam said.

I rolled onto my stomach and propped my head up on my hands. "That's only two days. If that."

"I know."

"My mom grounded me after I got home. And Lexi and I had another fight."

"Grounded you? Why?"

"Because I didn't tell her I was going out. I'm eighteen and graduated from high school and still can't go to a concert with my boyfriend."

"She's just looking out for you."

"She's being overprotective. I'm responsible enough."

"So what are your boundaries?"

"I can't go anywhere without her knowing about it. I went to the grocery store this morning for chips and candy and she asked me to send pictures so she knew I wasn't lying."

"That's brutal."

"It really is."

"Do you think she'd let you come see me before I go?"

"I can ask but I can't promise anything."

"Don't get into trouble over me. I don't want your parents hating me."

"They wouldn't hate you." But I wasn't so sure about that. My parents didn't like dwelling on the fact that Lexi and I dated which is probably why Lexi never mentioned any of her boyfriends to either of them.

"Okay. Just let me know if you wanna do something."

"How long are you going to be gone for?"

"Two weeks. Then I have a couple days off. I was thinking of coming back here and sight-seeing a little."

"Don't be too disappointed if you don't like what you see."

"I wasn't talking about the town."

"Neither was I."

He laughed. "I have to go. I'll talk to you later. Our manager called just now."

"Ok."

"Let me know if you're free and we can do something, okay?"

"I will."

"Bye, Liv."

"Bye." We hung up and I groaned. I really wanted to see him before he left but knowing my mom, it wouldn't happen. She was like a hawk on me and if I asked to go see my boyfriend, she'd make a huge deal over it. I didn't want her to know about him, especially since he was leaving for a few weeks.

"Aw, poor Liv can't go see her boyfriend." Lexi said, standing in my doorway.

"Quit eavesdropping."

"What would be the fun in that?"

"Would you please leave me alone?"

"No way. I'm bored and this is good entertainment."

"My life isn't any of your concern."

"Are you sure about that?"

"Please get out."

She leaned against the frame. "You know, if you gave me a couple bucks I could get mom to let you go."

"I don't need your help."

"Sounds like you do. I heard mom yelling at you last night."

"Do you really have nothing better to do than listen in on my conversations?"

"Nope. This town is really boring."

"Lex, please."

"Are you sure you don't want to go see him? They're leaving for their next venue soon."

"How do you know that?"

"A true fan would know where they're performing and when."

I rolled my eyes.

"If you're going to date one of them, you should inform yourself a little bit."

"I don't think that's the case. Otherwise Liam would be with you."

"He probably only wanted to date you because you were drinking the night you met him."

"So were you."

"But you were drunk. I don't get drunk."

I rolled my eyes. I knew what she was trying to pull. She was always trying to make me seem like she was better than me. Though her behavior wasn't as good as she wanted to believe.

"I wasn't drunk, Lexi. I had like two beers. And that logic doesn't even make sense."

"Sure it does."

"It sounds to me like he'd rather be with me."

She narrowed her eyes at me. "You don't know what you're talking about."

"I'm done talking about this. Liam's made his decision."

"People break up, Liv."

"He's not leaving me for you."

"Keep thinking that." She said as she walked away.

I sighed. Lexi was stupid to think that Liam would ever like her. He was probably glad he had me to talk to at the club instead of being stuck dancing with her. She was embarrassing and a pain. There's no way he'd be interested in someone like her.

I stuffed my wallet and phone into my backpack and threw it over my shoulder. I snuck down the hall to the stairs and walked down slowly and quietly. My mother was sitting with two of her friends, drinking glasses of dark red colored wine. They were talking about some celebrity I didn't know of. I went to the kitchen and left through the back, making it seem like I was just going to the backyard.

I got my phone out and texted Liam. Are you busy?

A few seconds later, a response came in. Nope. You free?

Yes. And desperate to leave.

Be there in ten.
