Liam was still in the room when I woke up the second time. He had pulled the other chair over to prop his feet up and somehow got a pillow to use. His head was as close to the bed as it could be.
I rubbed my eyes and felt a bandage on my forehead. It wasn't wrapped around my head but it covered my forehead completely.
I pushed the blanket off my legs and was surprised to see what I saw. My legs were pretty scarred and bruised but there were no casts or bandages covering any of my skin.
I glanced at the buttons on the side of the bed and found a red button. I pressed it, cringing in case it was something I wasn't supposed to touch. Moments later, a nurse came into the room.
"Is everything alright?" The woman was short and had bright red hair. She didn't have any piercings but I could see holes from where they would have been. Her scrubs were lavender colored with a cancer symbol on them.
I cleared my throat, glad that it wasn't hurting anymore. It did, however, feel dry. "I don't know how to use this." I held up the pad with the buttons so she could see what I meant.
She smiled and walked over to the side of the bed. "This one is in case you have an emergency, this one moves the bed forward, this one back, and these two lower and raise the bed. But I would advise you don't mess with those."
"I have to admit, it's tempting."
She laughed. "Can I get you anything while I'm here?"
"Can I have something to drink?"
"I'll stick with water for now but I'll see what the doctor says."
I nodded and watched her leave. At the bottom of the bed, on a table, were bouquets of flowers. I wanted to look at them and see who sent them but I wasn't sure I could move yet.
So I woke Liam up.
I shook him until he jerked into a sitting position.
"What, is everything okay?"
I smiled. "Can you bring those flowers up here?"
He got to his feel and walked around to where the flowers were. "Which one?"
"All of them?"
He raised his eyebrows but grabbed two pots and brought them over to me. "When did you wake up?"
"A little while ago. I didn't want to wake you up until it was necessary."
"Because flowers are important."
I grinned at him. "You know it."
He rolled his eyes. "Who are those from?"
"Louis and Niall."
"They miss you. All the guys do."
"Whose fault is that?"
Liam set the flowers on the bedside table. "I know. I'm an idiot."
"A big one."
He walked down and grabbed two more pots. "This one is from Harry. This other one says Xavier."
My breath caught in my throat. I knew I didn't have to keep anything from Liam. He already knew about the pills. But I felt so ashamed.
I hurt him. Maybe that wasn't my intention. Maybe it was.
"Do you want me to set these up here?"
"Only the tulips."
Liam must not have seen my pause because he said nothing more. Or maybe he did and was choosing not to say anything.
"Liam, can you see if Lex is out in the waiting room. I want to talk to her."
He nodded. "Sure. I'm gonna fill the guys in on how you're doing."
"They can visit if they want."
He laughed. "I'll tell them that."
