Chapter2– Beginning Part II

I stepped outside into the crisp air and sighed in relief. The ground was wet from the rain earlier and the air smelled like cigarette smoke. To my right were a bunch of trash cans, all smashed up and beaten. To my left was a tall boy with tattoos up his arms and a cigarette between his lips. A beard of stubble covered his chin. The fire from his cigarette lit up his face, revealing his brown eyes.

He glanced at me and held out his pack of cigarettes. "Want one?"

I shook my head. "I don't smoke."

He shrugged. "How old are you?"

I glanced at him. "I didn't come here looking for a date."

He chuckled. "That's not why I asked."

I glanced at the end of the alley. An escape if needed.

"I'm not going to hurt you. I promise."

I eyed him suspiciously, not sure if I believed him. He looked harmless but looks could be deceiving.

He laughed. "You don't recognize me?"

"Should I?" I didn't go to clubs often so I wouldn't have seen him around. And he looked older than I was so he didn't go to school with me. How would I have known him?

He pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of him and three other boys. All of them were cute but not really my type. "Look familiar?"

I shrugged. "Not really."

He started singing something. His voice was good but nothing I'd heard before.

"Look, I really don't know you." I said, stopping him. He was trying so hard and it was sweet but I didn't want to waste his time anymore.

"Liam, Liam Payne." He watched me, waiting for me to catch on.

I didn't. "Okay, James Bond."

He laughed. "I'm in a band. One Direction. We're like the most popular band in the world."

The realization hit me hard. He was one of the boys Lexi was freaking out over. Of course. "Oh. My sister freaked when she saw you guys in there."

"Looks like I found the right girl then."

My eyebrow rose. "Right? Don't you mean wrong?"

"It's a relief to find someone who doesn't know me. A little insulting but still a relief."

"Well excuse me for not being an obsessive teen girl."

"Come hang out with us inside. Maybe I can change your mind about us." He said, dropping his cigarette and stepping on it.

"You barely know me."

"Can I get to know you?"

"You do realize how famous you are, right? What if people saw you with me?"

"So what if they did?"

"Come inside and talk to me. If by the end of the night you don't like me, we don't ever have to talk again."

"Can my sister come too? She's a huge fan."

"Sounds like a plan."

---------------------------------------------

"I can't believe I'm hanging out with One Direction." Lexi squealed, almost spilling her drink.

I rolled my eyes. If she was going to be this annoying, it was going to be a long night.

"Can I get a picture?"

"Sure." Harry said, running his fingers through his hair.

She took a picture with the four of them, barely getting my ear in the picture.

"So, tell me more about yourself." Liam said.

I blanked. What could I tell him that wasn't lame or embarrassing?

"What are your interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes?"

I laughed. "You want to know all that?"

"If I thought you were boring, I wouldn't have asked."

My cheeks heated up and I was glad for the dim lighting. "Um... I like watching movies at home with popcorn and I like blankets fresh out of the wash. I don't like sequins or glitter."

"Your dress is like pure glitter."

"It's Lexi's."

"I believe that. What else?"

"Shouldn't you tell me more about yourself?"

He laughed. "I thought the tabloids would have covered that for me."

"You're forgetting who you're talking to."

"Right. Okay, well, I live in England. We're just stopping here on tour. I have two sisters and I happen to be single."

"Do you say that to every girl you're trying to impress?"

"Only the ones I like."

Lexi squealed and her eyes squinted. "Oh my gosh, you guys have to dance with us!"

Liam kept his eyes on me as the other three guys followed Lexi to the dance floor.

When she was gone, Liam laughed. "She's a typical fan."

I raised my eyebrows at him. "Did you expect anything less?"

"No but this is one of our songs. I'm not at all surprised she got excited."

It didn't sound bad. Not something I was into but it wasn't bad.

He nodded. "Would you like a drink?"

"Sure."

He waved at the bartender and the man was over to us in seconds, leaving his other customers waiting.

"What can I get you?"

"I'll have a beer." He turned and looked at me.

"Um... just a cherry coke."

The bartender nodded and rushed off to get our drinks.

"Do your parents know you're here?" Liam asked.

"My mom would kill me if she knew I was here."

"What does she think you're doing?"

"Sisterly bonding."

He laughed again. "That's good. She bought that?"

"She's all for my sister and I spending time together. She goes to school really far away and is only home in the summer. So this is the only time we see each other."

"Oh okay."

The bartender came back with our drinks then went back to the bar.

"Did you want something else? They won't card you."

"There's bound to be someone here watching you, right? You could get in serious trouble."

*Fix from this point on*

"And that's bad because..."

"Would you want the whole world to know what you do every second of everyday?"

"I guess not."

He looked out at the crowd and laughed. "Seems like your sister is having fun."

I face palmed, so embarrassed by her behavior. She wasn't grinding against them, yet, but she was being super flirty and it wasn't attractive.

"We've seen worse."

"I don't believe that."
