Chapter11 – Mary Jane

"If you need me, I'll be in my room." Mom said, standing at the bottom of the steps. She held a large book and a glass of wine.

"I'll be here." I said dryly.

"I don't want to hear it, Olivia."

I sighed.

"Goodnight." She said.

I started flipping through the channels, knowing nothing was on but still wanting to find something to watch.

The phone rang and I absentmindedly reached to the side table to get it. "Hello?"

"Hey."

I raised my eyebrows. "Who is this?"

"You called me."

"No, you called me." I looked at the ID but didn't recognize the number. It wasn't even from our area of town.

"Well I need to talk to Olivia Evans so could you like call her for me or something?"

I sighed. It had to be Lexi. "Are you drunk?"

"No, I'm Lexi."

"Where are you? Please tell me you aren't driving."

"I don't know. Do you know?"

"Describe where you are."

"Um... there's a tree and a swimming pool and..."

"Lex?"

"What?"

"Where are you?"

"Northwood, maybe?"

"Lex, there is no Northwood in this area." Northwood was a good hour away from us. Where she got the idea that she was there was beyond me.

"Do you know where I am?"

"Lex, that's why I'm asking you. Can you put someone else on the phone?"

"There's a lot of people here, Liv. Can you be more specific?"

"Hand the phone to the person beside you."

"Here ya go!" She said as she handed the phone. I could hear loud music in the background and someone yelling.

"Want some beer?" The guy on the phone said.

I groaned. I was never going to figure out where she was.

"Put Lexi back on the phone."

"Who's Lexi?"

I wrote down the number and hung up the phone. I got to my feet and walked into the small study. It was dark and quiet and it made me feel like what I was doing was even more sinister. Then again, I was grounded.

I looked up the number and found it really was Northwood. How did Lexi get there? Did she even know anyone that lived there?

I wrote down the address then dialed another number.

"Hello?"

"It's Liv. Can you pick me up? It's an emergency."

I softly shut the door, making sure I made as little noise as possible. I pulled my jacket on and slipped through the gate. The limo was waiting a few feet from the house and Liam was leaning against it, a cigarette in his hand.

"Do you know where she is?" He asked, opening the door for me.

"I have the address but I don't really know where it's at."

"We have GPS. We'll figure it out."

"I'm really sorry about this. I would've taken my mom's car but she took the keys. And if she found out about this, Lex would be grounded forever."

"You must really love your sister to go through all this trouble."

I sighed. "No, I'm just an idiot."

"I'd do the same thing for my sisters."

"You have sisters?"

He nodded. "Two of them."

"Wow."

He laughed. "What do you mean 'wow'?"

"One sister is a handful. How do you deal with two?"

"It's easier now that I have money."

"I can imagine."

"Why don't you and Lexi get along?"

I sighed. "We never really got along growing up. We always bickered and fought over who could have friends over and... dumb stuff, you know? Since she moved off to college... I don't know. Things just changed."

"She's changed."

"You think?"

"I don't know what she was like before but she's just growing up. College is a big step and it definitely changes how you think about things."

"I hate change."

He wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Change can be a good thing. I mean, look at how we met."

"I hate to say it but it was her idea to go to the club that night. I really didn't want to go."

"Not your thing?"

I laughed. "Not in the slightest."

"I'll make sure I keep that off the list for future date ideas."

I rested my head on his shoulder. "I can't believe you're going away for two whole weeks."

"It could be longer."

"Yeah, but two weeks. That just... How am I supposed to survive?"

"Aren't you grounded?"

I rolled my eyes. "When my mom is with her friends, there's plenty of time to sneak out or talk on the phone or do... something. With you gone... I can't do any of that."

He kissed the top of my head. "It'll be over before you know it."

"I hope so."

The limo pulled up to a house that definitely looked like a party. There were beer cans everywhere, toilet paper on the roof, and a pool noodle in place of a rain-spout.

I pulled away from Liam and opened the door. "I'll try and be quick-"

"No way am I letting you go in there by yourself."

I mentally groaned. Was he going to be a controlling boyfriend? Because that was a definite turn off for me. "Liam-"

"Drunk people can get violent. I'm going with you."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."
