"When are you going to get out of bed and do something?" Mom asked, picking up dirty clothes from the floor. She tossed them into the basket she was dragging around. In her pressed skirt and dress shirt, she looked so out of place. The stiletto heels didn't help either.
"I got out of bed yesterday, remember? To get those gummy bears."
"You're wasting your life away." If only she knew how true that was.
"This is how I like spending my last summer as a kid."
"You should be thinking about your future."
"What about it?"
"Have you scheduled a time to meet with your college adviser at all?"
"I don't have to, mom."
"Because you know everything already? Olivia-"
"Mom, I just don't have to meet anyone. It's only community college."
"This is your future. Don't you care at all?"
Truthfully, I didn't care about my future. College sounded pointless when I could just go out and find a job.
"Of course I do."
"Then you need to get out of bed and go figure something out." She pulled my blanket off of me and tossed it onto the floor. "I mean it, Olivia."
I rolled my eyes and got out of bed. "There. Step one is done. Now can you go and leave me alone?"
She sighed heavily before she left, slamming the door behind her.
When I knew she was gone, I grabbed the orange bottle from under my bed and popped two pills into my mouth. I put two in my purse, knowing I'd need them later.

I stared at the building, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tight the knuckles were turning white. My mouth was dry but my eyes weren't. I wanted so badly to go back home and crawl under the covers but I wasn't about to do that when mom was home.
I picked up my phone from the cup holder and opened a social media website. The first thing posted was a picture of Liam, his arm around some girl. He was in a suit; the girl wore a gold dress that showed off her cleavage.
I tossed my phone into the backseat, popped the two pills that were in my purse into my mouth and drove away from the building.
I pulled into the parking lot at the college and parked the car. I didn't want to go in and act like I wanted a degree. I didn't want to think about my future or what I would be doing a year or so from now. I was so tired of doing everything just to please my mother.
I got out of the car and stared at the administrations' office. I walked up the sidewalk to the building inside.
"Hi, how can I help you?" A woman at the front desk asked me, her voice happy.
"I need to withdraw from my classes."
"Is there a problem? There are still some scholarships you can fill out-"
"It's not like that. I just realized college isn't really for me."
"Alright. Well go down the hall and the first door on your left is where we handle withdraws."
"Thank you."
