"What's got you so happy?" I asked Chris as we walked over to our usual breakfast table.
Being that we have kitchen duty in the mornings, we're always the last to get to eat. That means we only ever have like five minutes to eat too, but at least we get to see the guys for even that small amount of time. They keep us from killing the people we share that kitchen with, to be honest.
"I'm happy and sad at the same time." He murmured to me, "Angelo has exactly a month left until he's released. I'm happy he's getting away from here but I'm sad I won't get to see his beautiful face everyday. His freedom and the fact that he'll actually get to live again means way more to me though."
"How sweet." I smirked.
It was a bit of a tease and bit genuine. They were the perfect psycho couple. It was like Bonnie and Clyde. The different being that Chris didn't want Angelo to ever go down with him. The second he sat down, his hand found his angel's. I set my tray down on the table. Kuza's arm snaked over my waist and I could see his Devil's smile out of the corner of my eye.
"How's my baby?" He mused into my ear as he played with the undone button of my shirt.
I sighed, "Later."
"Buuut, I just got out of the hotbox and, well, I'm craving MY hotbox." He sweetly said.
He could sweet talk, sure. Did he actually mean it? Fuck if I know. These walls will make you say things you'd never mean on the outside. His hand fell down to my thigh, giving me a squeeze. It did turn me on. If you saw his fucking abs, they'd get you, too. I've only got a few minutes to eat though and I wanted to enjoy them.
"I promise I'll give you a proper welcome back in the courtyard. Just let me eat, please." I told him.
Hesitantly, he pulled away. He can be pissed at me all he wants. I don't belong to him. After all these years, I truly believe I've repaid him for what he did for me when I first arrived here. I don't owe him shit at this point. You can only drag a debt out so far. We get to play our little game of cat and mouse now.
"You're quiet." Chris said to Ryan.
Kuza scoffed, "You act like that's abnormal."
Ryan sighed and let his eyes wonder off, "I'm just tired. I got a new cellmate and half the fucking prison wants to kill the kid. The whole fucking night he was crying 'cause of it."
"Christ," I snit, "How'd someone like that end up here?"
His response was a tired groan, "Daddy issues."
The silver light of the moon reflected off of the pistol in Vinny's hand as I watched him load the barrel. He caught my stare, cocking that fucking Jersey attitude, "What?"
"Nothing." I replied innocently, "I was just thinking how far you've come. You used to be scared of your own shadow, back at Graham. Now, you're one of the shadows that scares other people."
He rolled his eyes, "Don't be fucking cheesy, Dev."
I snickered, shaking my head. He began to walk past me. I followed to make sure he was going to right way, even though I'm sure he could figure it out. We do have the map on our phones. Plus, the warehouse is the only building with lights on right now. Vinny is a little pissy tonight, as you may have noticed. I can't blame him.
It's not pissy as much as it is on edge. Even if he's the one with a gun, he is still facing the biggest enemy and hinder of his life. His father always wanted him to toughen up. Maybe he'll be proud to see how far Vinny has come. It wasn't Mauro's doing that gave him tough skin. It was ours. We were the one that made him comfortable with that gun, when all his father had done for years was made him fear it.
