Doorbell Chimes

I pull up in front of Calum's house, stop the engine and get out of the car. I take a deep breathe before walking over to the front door. I press the doorbell and hear the chimes through the wood of the door, followed by slow, loud steps down the stairs. The door opens and there Calum stands. 

"H-hi" I smile nervously. 

He doesn't answer me and just leaves the door open signalling for me to come in. I follow Calum upstairs and into his room. He takes a seat at his computer and resumes the movie that he was watching. We sit in silence for while, only the sounds of 'The Benchwarmers' filling the air. 

"Where's Mali?" I ask, breaking the awkward silence. 

No reply. 

"Right .." 

The silence continues for a few more moments. 

"Why didn't you tell me Dee?" Calum turns around and looks at me. 

"Because I knew that you wouldn't have let me compete" I reply, fiddling with my car keys. 

"How would you know that? Don't you think that I'd let you do what you enjoy doing?" 

"Well yeah but-" 

"But what?" 

"Look I'm sorry alright? I'm sorry for being late to pick you up! Everything that Dad said was entirely true, I thought you would be more understandable!" 

"If you think that this is because you didn't pick me up, we'd be fighting way more often! And I wouldn't be reacting this way if you told me about what is happening in your mysterious and exciting life seeming how I am your boyfriend and all" 

"My mysterious and exciting life? Really? If you haven't already realised whenever you're on tour I do not know half of the things you do with your down time, so don't go on talking about how I don't tell you anything because you sure as hell don't" 

Calum goes to continue talking but I stop him, "You know, I thought that you would've been at least the little bit happy for me, but I-I guess I was wrong" I pick up my bag and walk towards the door. 

"So now you're making me feel bad about something that you did?!" Calum gets up and starts walking towards me, hurt and anger in his eyes. 

I pause, not knowing what to say next. I fix my bag so it sits more securely on my shoulder, before walking down the stairs. 

"Are you really seriously gonna run away again? Running away from your problems doesn't fix them Andie!" Calum shouts after me. 

"It's not running away if I'm staying there" I mumble under my breathe, Calum's hand grabs my arm gently but with force. 

"What did you say?" Calum looks into my eyes. 

I turn around and shake Calum's hand off of me, taking a step back, "I said ... It's not running away if I'm staying there" 

"Staying there? Stay where Andie? Where are you going?" 

"NYU" I reply more strongly. 

"Why the fuck are you going there?!" 

"I am going there because I got an offer from some directors that saw me dance at that competition, that started this whole argument, but it's obvious that you don't even give a shit!" 

"So what now? Are you just gonna pick up your stuff and leave to New York?" 

"Yep" 

"Then go on. Leave! Leave us" I see Calum's eyes about to water but he holds back the tears. 

I turn around and start up the engine of my car and drive away. What did I just do. I consider turning the car around and driving back to Calum's but I don't want to see the pain that I've caused him. I never wanted to ever cause him that much pain, but I have. I pick up the speed and drive back home.

I drop my keys on my table, kick off my shoes, flick the play button on my boombox and let the songs drown out the sound of my sobs. I pull myself completely underneath the covers. 

"Honey! I'm home from work! Andie?!" The voice of my Dad comes closer to my room, "Andie? A-Andie?" Dad comes rushing towards me. 

"What's wrong sweetie?" He lifts the cover off of me and holds me in his arms. 

"I've messed up really bad" I cry even harder into his chest. 

"How so?" 

"I've hurt him" 

"Hurt who?" 

"Calum. And the saddest part is that this isn't the first time" 

"Did this happen because of what I said?" 

"No, it's because of what I didn't"
