In March 1784, King George III struggles to control his rebellious eldest son, George, Prince of Wales, who is unwilling to give up his exorbitant lifestyle and friendship with the Opposition. All hope of reform is lost when a young widow returns to London and catches the prince's eye, but her religious convictions may stunt his hopes of ever having her.
