Chapter 33

PEETA POV

When I wake up I see that my arms and legs are tied up. I look around and see I'm in a dark room, suddenly the lights go on and I see Gale standing I front of me, I have to squint because of how bright it is and then I see her "Katniss!!" I call out "Katniss" she looks up "Peeta?" "Shut up you two" Gale hisses at us "alright listen up, if you don't do what we say Katniss will be punished" "fine" I sigh "good, now you will be made to watch the others punishment, if you interfere you will be punished is that clear" he yells at us "yes" I hear Katniss whimper "good" Gale says and leaves "Peeta why did you come!?" She says "i was trying to save you" I explain "Peeta, you didn't have to and look what happened I got you captured" she cries "no no no Katniss i was trying to save you" I explain "but now we are both going to die" she slumps down and starts crying, I crawl up next to her "don't worry we will get out of here" I say, she calms down a bit and begins hiccuping "thank you Peeta" she whispers "we will be fine" I reassure her but I know deep down it will be tough and we might not be.

Katniss soon falls asleep in my arms and I follow after. When I wake up I hear a commotion out side.

"But snow it's been a week and a half can we get paid now" "No! Not yet" "but I miss my family and friends" "I don't care you wanted to help so that's your problem not mine" "fine" I shake Katniss awake "Kat I might know how to get out of here" "how?" She asks "Delly and Lucy don't really want you killed-" Katniss laughs "yeah right" she snaps "no I heard them Snow hasn't paid them and they are planning to escape" "so what's your plan?" Katniss asks with her big grey eyes staring at me "when they come in to torture us we talk them in to helping us escape" Katniss thinks for a bit before speaking up "are you sure that will work?" "It's worth a try" "but what if they tell snow what we are going to do?" She asks "that's a risk I'm going to take are you in?" I reply "only if you are"

2 hours later

I'm sitting next to Katniss, playing with her hair when Lucy and Delly walk in. They stop in their tracks and I see a tear in Delly's eye "I-I can't do this anymore" she sobs "stay strong if snow finds out he'll kill you and them" Lucy whispers to her, I feel Katniss's head rest on my chest. "Delly..Lucy" I call, Delly spins and faces me and Katniss "what?" She asks "come here" I say calmly "I need to ask you something" they both walk over here.

"look I don't know why you hate Katniss so much but I know deep down in your hearts that you don't want her to die. I know that you like me but by killing Katniss your killing me inside so can we come to an agreement and can you please help us escape" Delly and Lucy look shocked "if snow fins out that we are helping you he will kill us... All of us" Lucy explains "well we'll have to make sure he doesn't know" I say "so what's your plan?" Lucy asks "ok tonight when Snow and Gale have fallen asleep I want you to steal the key, once you have don't that you come here and help get us free. We have to make sure that Gale and Snow won't wake up so I want you to to tie they're arms and legs together" I explain to them, "give us a minute" Delly and Lucy talk "we are in... But you can't dog us into the police" "deal" me and Kat say at the same time.

We hear snow banging on the door "YOUR HOURS UP ITS GALES TURN!" Snow yells, Katniss looks up at me with pleading eyes "what's he going to do?" She asks us, Delly frowns "whipping is his favourite" she whispers. I hear Katniss let out a small streak before she hides her face in my shirt, I rub her back trying to calm her. It works and she begins hiccuping. Delly and Lucy leave and Gale walks in.

As Delly predicted Gale walks in with a whip "torture time" he smiles evilly "your up first catnip" "please Gale don't" she pleads "do what I say or Peeta gets it" he threatens, I feel her grip on me tighten and Gale gets frustrated "fine I'll just have to drag you" he walks over to us and grabs Katniss's waist, he swiftly lifts her up and over his shoulder, but not before kicking me in the face, "oops" he laughs and walks over to the whipping post "NO!!" I yell but I can't do anything I'm forced to watch.

When Gale makes the first lash Katniss let's out an ear piercing scream, it gets quieter and quieter each time until all you hear is a whimper of pain. After the 25 lashes are over, she's barley conscious, Gale throws her over his shoulder and walks over to me "your lucky Mellark your next tomorrow" and with that he leaves. I crawl over to Katniss and look at her back, I gasp when I see it. It looks horrible "oh Katniss" I sigh. I slowly get my shirt off and place it on her back, she winces and her hands curl up into fists "it's ok we will be out of here soon" I whisper in her ear "Stay with me" she whispers "always" I reply before her eyes droop close.

KATNISS POV

My back is raw and extremely sore after the whipping, Peeta placed his shirt on my back which help a little bit but it's still very painful. I feel Peeta playing with my hair, he brushes over my face with my hair and I wriggle my nose when he tickles it, he chuckles a little before returning to fiddling with my hair. I feel him nudge my shoulder and I open my eyes "hey" he whispers "hey" I say sitting up and stretching, i hold back a scream when I feel my back stretch. Peeta seems to notice and helps me lie back down "still sore?" He asks. A moan escapes my lips and I think he gets it. "Delly and Lucy should come and rescue us any moment now"' Peeta says. I totally forgot "Peeta.... My....back" I manage to get out, "I'll carry you don't worry it will be over soon" he says brushing the hair off my face.

After waiting an hour and a half The door creaks open and Lucy and Delly silently slip through the crack, they cut the cloth on our arms and legs and Delly's face grows pale when she sees my back "is she going to be alright?" Lucy asks "it's only going to get worse" Peeta replies, once our arms and legs are free, Peeta takes his shirt off my back and throws it in the corner, he picks me up bridal style and we walk towards the door. Delly and Lucy go first and check that the coast is clear, Peeta pokes his head around the corner and Lucy ushers us to come. Peeta tries to walk as slowly as he can but I bet you 10$ he stepped on the creakiest floorboard each time. Each time i would check if Snow or Gale had woken up. Once we have made it to the end of the hall way. We relax "phew that was close" Peeta says but he spoke to soon, when Delly opens the front door it makes a huge noise and I see snows eyes dart open and stare right at us "RUN!!" Peeta yells and we dart for the woods. Lucy knocks out the guard and we run as fast as we can to get away from the house.

"Do you know where we are going?!" Delly yells "doesn't matter as long as it's as far away from there" Peeta calls back, I turn around and see Gale and another guard running after us "THERE! a road up ahead" Peeta points out, I look and I can see it it's a busy road and I see people walking along the streets. We are just about to jump through a brush when a knife comes whiz zing past us just missing Peeta's ear "they're throwing knives at us!" I yell, Peeta ducks and weaves through the bushes and trees until I can see a path "there!" I yell and point to the clearing of the path. We all sprint for it. We burst through the clearing and all fall on top of each other, I didn't get the worst of it but Delly fell on my back, I screamed an ear piercing scream and fall unconscious.
