Elsie
I had to get back to classes, Lily and Remus had helped me clean up and catch up on work. The best I can do is try to start living again. The only downside about this choice was that it came at the last minute. Class had started five minutes ago. I ran down the halls, my hair flying all over the place. Lily will not be pleased about that. A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I saw the classroom doors, though I didn't realise how loud the doors were when they opened. Professor Mcgonagall looked at me in surprise. "Sorry I'm late Professor" She only smiled at me. "It's quite alright, please take your seat" I quietly made my way down the row of desks. I noticed Sirius and James staring as I took my seat at the back of the class. As the lesson went on I took more and more notes, though I could still feel the gazes of Sirius and James. I'll have to talk to them later. As class finished I quickly packed up my things. "Miss Woodwinds" The professor called as I was making my way out. "Yes Professor?"
"It's good to see you back, I hope you are doing well" I smiled. "Thank you, I'll see you later" I waved goodbye as I made my way to the next lesson, Defence Against the Dark Arts. The lesson went quickly. We were learning more non verbal spells, I still hate it. I'm alright at it, but I hate it. I might need to spend more time catching up then I had thought. "Elsie?" A hand landed on my shoulder, I look over and see James. "Prongs" he pulled me into a hug. "Are you alright? What happened?" Sirius stood behind us, seeming uncomfortable. "Could we talk about this somewhere quieter?" I asked them, James nodded and led us down a few halls and into an empty classroom. "What happened Elsie?"
"It was my uncle... He... He..." I could barely keep the tears in. I thought I'd shed enough tears but... It hurt. "I have no home, no family. I've got nothing" James pulled me into a hug again. "What am I supposed to do now?" I cried. I could barely contain the tears. I could feel another set of arms around me. "We are here for you" was all they said. They held me for a while. Sirius very hesitantly started to stroke my hair, trying to calm me down. They made me feel safe. It didn't take long for me to calm down. For the rest of the day they helped me take notes, get to classes and tried to cheer me up. Before I knew it we were all in the great hall eating dinner.
"Elsie... If its okay for me to ask, have you got any other family?" I almost spat out my soup. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't of asked" James quickly responded after seeing my reaction. I sigh, they were bound to ask eventually. "No, its alright. You just caught me by surprise" The others looked at me curiously. "Do you then?" I shook my head. "I don't, my relatives aren't exactly good people... All about pure bloodlines and all that nonsense. My mother and her brother were the only ones to ever go against their beliefs, running away and starting a new life" I stirred my soup, watching the liquid move. "Though my mother still married a wizard, my relatives would never take them back... It's all I've ever heard of them when I grew up" Danny never told me much, other then how bad things got between them. With him gone, what am I supposed to do? I won't have a home to go to. "I understand Elsie, we are all here for you" Sirius gave me a thoughtful gaze, I know he came from a similar background. My parents would've liked him. I know Danny had. "Hey you know what, I actually had a thing I needed to do. Completely forgot! I'll see you all later!" James raised from his spot. "Prongs it's dinner!"
"And I'm sure you can finish it without me!" He dramatically replies before rushing down the hall. "Is it just me or was that weird?" Remus speaks up as he stares at the now empty seat. "You mean weirder then normal?" Maybe all his thoughts of wooing Lily were finally getting to him. "He is always weird, him not being weird would be a worry" We all laughed continuing our dinner.
**********"Come on! We can't be late Elsie!" Sirius held my hand and kept rushing towards the headmasters office. Why we were going there, I had no idea. I suppose it has something to do with Dannys belongings... And his funeral but Dumbledore and I had already discussed it a few days ago. I saw James waiting at the bottom of the tower, a huge smile on his face. One that indicated he had another stupid idea up his sleeve. The two led me inside and up to the office. "Ah Miss Woodwinds, please take a seat" Dumbledore motioned to the empty chair in front of his desk. Next to him stood a witch and a wizard, both looking rather old but joyful. The wizard had grey hair with a few dark strands here and there, his robes were a dark blue and seemed rather fancy. The witch, much like the wizard had grey hair that was tied in a tight bun. Her robes were similar to the wizards, only more violet then blue. They seemed familiar, yet I couldn't put my finger on it.
Were they from the ministry? They seemed like important people. "Now that we are all settled, lets begin" Sirius and James stood by my seat. Eagerly awaiting what Dumbledore had to say. "Now Miss Woodwinds, Mr Potter here has been in contact with his parents about your living situation" He motions to the couple standing next to him. These were James parents? I wonder why we had never met sooner. "James has told us everything, we are very sorry to hear about your uncle dear" Mrs Potter attempts a smile. "But we have been thinking, if you need a place to stay, you are very welcome to move in with us" Mr Potter states. Move in with James and Sirius? Is there enough room for me? I think they noticed the struggle on my face as Mrs Potter spoke up again.
"There is plenty of room, in fact we were hoping you'd be here by the holidays" Christmas was soon approaching, only being a few weeks away. "Well Miss Woodwinds, is this something you'd like to do?" A smile spread across my face. I couldn't believe it, I'd been thinking that I would be all my own. "I'd love that Headmaster, I can't thank you all enough"
