"Elsie hurry up! We will be late!" My uncle grabs my hand and rushes through the busy station. You know if I weren't carrying such a heavy trunk maybe it would be a bit quicker to get there. "You don't want to miss the train!" He stops suddenly, his hair was all over the place. It's dark strands standing up in different directions due to the rush. He had left us between platforms 9 and 10. I gripped his hand tighter, I was nervous for Hogwarts. "Hey, it'll be okay" My uncle reassures me. I took a deep breath and followed him through the wall. The platform was busy with families saying their goodbyes, though some students seemed quite eager to get on the train. It hooted once more, letting out a puff of steam. "Is that the time already? Okay, you got your wand? Trunk..." I stood there listening to my uncle list off each thing, I nodded occasionally just so he would stop. "Alright, have a good year and write to me as often as you can! I'll see you at Christmas" He gives me a tight hug, I won't admit it but I was really going to miss him. "I love you" He says before letting me go. "Love you too, bye!" I rush towards the train with my trunk in hand. I passed a lot of compartments that seemed to be already full of intimidating older students.
After a little while of searching I finally found a somewhat empty compartment. Two boys sat on one side and a girl and another boy opposite to them. "Hey is it alright if I sit in here? Everywhere else seems to be full" Truthfully, I didn't want to be around the older students. They scared me a little. The two boys were okay with me sitting with them, thankfully. One of them had round glasses and messy dark hair, the boy next to him was slightly taller with longer curlier hair. The girl seemed happy that I had joined them. Her red hair stood out in the group of dark haired boys. That and the fact it was neatly brushed. The others were greasy, curly and messy. "I'm Elsie" I put my trunk away and greeted them. "I'm James and this is Sirius" The one with glasses introduces them, lazily waving towards Sirius. "I'm Lily, this is Severus" Severus just looked at me blankly, his dark eyes looking dull as a blank page. "We were just discussing what house we want to be in" My uncle told me about the four houses, I want to make him proud. To be a Gryffindor just like he had been. "Where are you heading, if you've got the choice?" Sirius tries to spark up the conversation.
James suddenly stood up, looking at us proudly. "Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!' Like my dad... Got a problem with that?" Severus just rolls his eyes in response. I wonder what his problem is. "No. If you'd rather be brawny than brainy..." Gryffindors weren't all brawny, were they? I wouldn't have thought so. "Yeah but it's only the best house, you never know Evans. You and I could end up in the same house! Wouldn't that be great?" Lily looked extremely uncomfortable enough as it is, James' comment was just the sugar on top. "In your dreams Potter" Well this certainly seemed like the start to a beautiful relationship.
I was grateful when we got to Hogwarts, the train ride was awkward with Severus. Like he didn't want to be around the rest of us. I almost completely forgot about the ride when we approached the castle. I was in awe. The lights that broke through the glass made the water glitter around us, the castle standing tall and proud. I couldn't wait to see the inside and see if it were just as beautiful. The sorting was a little nerve racking at first. I watched as James and Sirius were sorted into Gryffindor. The Slytherins seemed offended as they seemed so proud as they marched towards their house. Lily smiled brightly as she joined the boys at Gryffindor table.
When Severus' turn came up and he seemed really nervous. I'm assuming he would want to be with his friend Lily, the two seemed close on the train ride here. I don't think I'll ever forget the T disappointment on his face when "Slythrin!" was called out. I just hope he and Lily will continue to stay friends despite this. "Elsie Woodwinds" I walked up to the stall and put the hat on my head. The hat barely touched my head before it shouted "Gryffindor!"
