Katie opened her eyes slowly. She still couldn't hear anything. But she could see her family and friends.
Katie saw her little cousin Mindy and knew Mindy was sobbing. She felt bad for her cousin, her knew Mindy was only five.
Katie strained to move her eyes and saw her mother and aunt crying. Her aunt was standing there crying softly, Katie knew she was holding it in, probably for Mindy. On the other hand her mother was sobbing into her aunt's shoulders.
Katie saw Mr. Riverside in the far corner he looked like he was holding back tears. She wanted to impress Mr. Riverside with her swimming, she wanted to jump in the pool.
Then she saw Amber. Amber. The girl who had worked so hard, who had wanted to be the best, she should have been happy that Katie couldn't swim. Amber shouldn't be crying. Amber's pretty blue eyes turned a darker shade a blue when she cried and Katie knew that Amber was, when it came down to this, a good friend.
Then she saw someone who surprised her, standing next to Mrs. Bee and Doctor Arthur was Sakura, the leader of the reptile club. The girl she had bullied her entire life. This girl wanted to be her friend so bad, that she was crying for her, Katie felt a pang of regret and wished she'd been a good person when she had the chance.
These are the people who care about me. Katie told herself. And even though the odds are against me, I will try my hardest to get better for them.
