The Bodyguard

Chapter 30

After a four-hour nap, Emma and Killian went back to the hospital where David was staying. It was Mary Margaret's turn to get some rest while the other two kept an eye on the patient.

"I'll be back in an hour" Emma's mother stated as she picked up her things from the room.

"Mom, take your time" her daughter said "Dad's going to be alright. You go to the house, sleep, eat, and stay there all the hours you need"

The short haired woman smiled and hugged Emma "Alright. See you guys later"

She kissed David and waved goodbye to Killian before walking away.

"So..." David began "Did you bring the laptop? I think we could watch a movie right now because I'm getting really bored!"

"Dad, you sound like a little boy" Emma said teasingly, even though she meant it.

"Please, Emma!" He went on, this time pouting as a young kid on purpose.

Killian chuckled as Emma rolled her eyes and turned the laptop on.

"Well, I'll be outside" the bodyguard said as he stood up from the chair. He thought that Emma and David wanted to have some father-daughter time so he didn't want to interrupt them. However, he was about to leave when David's voice stopped him.

"Where are you going? Aren't the three of us watching a movie?"

"Oh... I thought-"

"Come on, take a sit. It's gonna be fun" David cut him off kindly before Killian smiled.

Emma smiled as well, loving that her father liked Killian although he wasn't aware of what was going on between them.

After a long while of trying to decide which movie they should watch, they finally opted for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation since the guys wanted some great action scenes and Emma died to see Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner. They exchanged comments, laughs and opinions as they enjoyed the movie together.

As soon as it ended, Emma's phone rang.

"I have to get this. I'll be back in a bit. You can choose the next one" she said before leaving the room and answering the call.

Killian scrolled down the movie catalogue as David and him gave it a look. Surprisingly, they had similar tastes when it came to the cinematography world.

After a while, Emma returned to the room and sat down just in time for the original Ghostbusters film. She didn't say a thing, but Killian noticed that she had a strange expression on her face, possibly due to the call she had received.

"Everything okay?" Killian asked Emma when they were at the hospital's cafeteria. The doctor had told them that David needed some rest (even if he denied it) so they were asked to leave the room little after the movie had ended.

"Uh yes" she replied before taking a sip of orange juice "It's just that... Walsh called"

Killian shifted in his place "What did he tell you?"

"He was worried because he arrived to Los Angeles this morning and didn't see any of us. He also... Freaked out because some of my clothes and personal stuff were missing so he thought that... That I had fled or something like that" she explained, her eyes on the ground.

He cleared his throat uncomfortably "Oh..."

"I explained what happened to my father and that we had to come to Colorado as soon as possible. I then apologized for not calling him nor sending him a text. He was a bit shaken... And after telling him that we are not returning to LA until my father gets well..."
