When a week of being in Vancouver came around, Carol and Jake told me that they had enrolled me in school. I knew that was coming. Actually---I knew of having to go to school, I just didn't think they'd enroll me so soon. I was hoping they'd give me a little more than 4 days to adjust. It's a little harsh to just push me under the bus now.

"Welcome to Landen High School," the principal, Mr. Reynolds said.

I nodded and clutched onto my book bag as Jake and Carol shook the principals hand.

"We're excited to have Emerson join us," Mr. Reynolds said to Carol and Jake.

"We're glad we were able to register her here on such short notice. You're staff was very informative and helpful," Carol added.

"We pride ourselves on creating a warm and caring environment for our students, parents, and any guests that enter our school."

Sounded like something he memorized and repeated on a regular basis.

"So Emerson," Mr. Reynolds turned his attention to me. "Here at Landen Highschool, we pride ourselves on our peer programs. Some of our senior students volunteer their time to ensure smooth transitions for some of the newer students. Would you like someone to show you around?"

"That sounds like a really great idea," Carol answered excitedly.

"That's unnecessary," I managed to say. Those were the first words out of my mouth. "I don't need a guide."

"It's a big school, Emerson," Jake told me. "The peer guide could help you find your classes."

"I think I'm capable of reading room numbers."

Jake shrugged, "Just a thought."

Well it was a stupid thought. As long as I have a map of the school, I can figure the rest out by myself.

"Okay well if you change your mind, just come on by the office and we'll find someone," Mr. Reynolds said with a big grin. "Here's your class schedule." He handed me my schedule. They put me in senior level Biology and Chemistry?!

Block 1: English Room: A104 w/ Mrs. Myer

Block 2: Biology Room: A101 w/ Ms. Peterson

Block 3: Chemistry Room: B202 w/ Mr. Wolf

Block 4: Art Room: C202 w/ Mr. Richards

"I'll need a map too.."

My eyes shifted from the map in my hands to upfront as I walked down the hallway. I had to find my first class. I figured I could search for my locker later.

'A104, A104," I kept repeating to myself. I managed to find the 'A' wing of the school without having to use the map. It was conveniently located right outside the main office. I wasn't going to have any trouble making it to my first class on time that's for sure. In fact, when I found the class room, the bell just rang.

When I walked into the classroom, I looked around to see that I was the first student to arrive. Perfect. At least being here before everyone else, I wouldn't awkwardly walk in and have all eyes on me. That's always the worst thing about being the new kid. You're like this shiny new toy. At least I could now introduce myself to the teacher, sit down and hopefully blend into obscurity.

I introduced myself to Mrs Myer then sat in the very back of the class. I then laid my head down on the desk and hoped this class would go by fast. As a matter of fact, that every class goes by quickly.
