Amber. Amber. I thought i'd have to repeat the name over and over again to clue in who this Amber girl was but it came in a flash. Amber was his ex.
"Okay." I narrowed my eyes, "So what, you still have strong feelings for her so you want to protect her? Defend her honor?" Someone should really tell him that once you become an 'ex' your feelings pretty much mean shit all. You have no say anymore. You can't give them your opinion on potential guy or girlfriends. You can't tell them who they can or can't talk to. You can't even tell them what they should or shouldn't wear but I guess that's more particularly a problem for the ex-girlfriends.
This is why its hard to be friends with an ex. Some feel entitled being the ex to 'control' their ex's fate and it just fucks things up.
You aren't entitled to anything being an 'ex.' Plain and simple.
A muscle in his jaw jumped. "He was talking shit so I wanted to put him in his place."
"You shouldn't get involved," I said. " It's not your place anyway to interfere. You're the ex. If they are dating so be it." This is when I question how many relationships Levi has ever been in. For someone who everyone claims to be 'experienced' he really doesn't know his boundaries as an ex.
I haven't been in one relationship and I know what's over stepping my boundaries. What's his excuse?
"I still care about her as a friend," he said, rubbing his face. "You don't just forget about someone you have history with."
"No but it would make it a whole lot easier if you could." If you hold onto something that hurts you it only makes you worse off. That's how I see it.
"She shouldn't be talked about like she's trash. She's a good girl."
"Yea, well I'm sure she is but it's not like your gonna change Derek's mind by punching him out." Hell I think the punching out probably fueled more hate. Come tomorrow things might just be worse.
"Still, I wasn't just going to stand by and watch him mistreat her like that."
"You sure it was worth picking a fight over though?" I asked, "Cuz I see things being much worse for Amber now. He'll probably start doing more shit in spite of you."
When I was 7, I was living with a family who had a biological daughter. She was 16 at the time and one day I got into her makeup. I saw her putting on makeup a couple of times before and I was curious. So I decided I wanted to try it out and be like her. I started to put a few things on and I of course had no idea what did what. So I just tested everything I could and put it wherever I felt. Once I was finished, I noticed that the bottles of mascara and concealer (What I know now) were kind of emptied so I knew I had to cover my tracks. I filled both the containers with water and put it away. When the biological daughter found what I did she didn't seem so mad. Something I thought was strange but being 7 you don't really over analyze anything. A day later she called me into the bathroom and told me she wanted to teach me how to put on some makeup. I said yeah. So she put a few things on, stuck things in certain places and told me to go into her room and show her group of friends that were over. I walked in and they laughed at me. Apparently having a tampon stuck in my nose isn't the latest makeup trend..
I know first hand how some will do things in spite of you.
He shrugged, "I'd do anything for her. Anything."
That's cute and all, I get it, but he should really pick his battles more wisely. He could have given Amber a 'death sentence' if you will. Who knows what Derek will do after being embarrassed in front of a group of students.
