"Run."

I walked/ran as quickly as I could. I had seen wolves who had lost control before, and it took them a while before they could regain that control. After I mind-linked Cris and JoHanna to get everyone to stay out of the woods for a bit, I waited impatiently. They circled back to me and began speaking at once.

"Luna, we overheard the Alpha talking on the phone earlier. It involved the missing pups," rushed JoHanna.

"Alpha Reilly said that she would return the pups to us in two weeks, but, we have to meet her to get them. You and Cali must go alone," said Cris with an undertone of anger.

Thanking them, I told them that Kade had lost control, and to warn the guards to back off if they saw him. Nodding, they smiled, then left. I slowly made my way back to the pack house. Upon my arrival, one of the messengers, Denyse, approached me.

"Luna, have a message for you from a Luna Michelle. She thanks you for agreeing to their terms, and that they shall send half of their warriors within the fortnight. The twenty-eight warriors have all volunteered to come."

"Thank you Denyse. Send her my word that we shall protect them, and house them adequately. Also tell her that I wish her baby boy a happy six month birthday," I calmly replied.

She grinned, and left immediately. Cali walked over to me and smiled sadly. We spoke about the meeting in two weeks and how we were going to execute the plan. It was undoubtedly agreed that we were going to have backup. Also, that those pups would be returned safely.

"Zoe, this is difficult. In two weeks you will be so close to your due date. That puts you at vulnerability. She said that your pup would not live to see a day, and this may be the time she ends it all. We all have our weak spots, for me it is Deena and Cris, for you it's your pup and the Alpha."

I growled at her. She stepped back. Cali knew she had crossed a line. Bowing her head, she scooped up Deena, and walked up the stairs to the nursery. She does have a point, I say to my self. Protectively, I put a hand over my swollen stomach. Glancing out the window, I noticed night had fallen. Making my way upstairs, I took one last glance at the main door. Only Charles, JoHanna's mate, was sitting on the couch with her. They smiled, and said they would let me know when Kade arrived.

As I sat up waiting in our room, I could felt my eyes begin to close; then, everything went dark. I felt someone kiss my forehead. I woke up, and saw Kade. He had placed me on our bed, and sat me up.

"My love, I have to tell you something. Before I left for my run. I got a call. It was from my step-father. He said that my mother died, and that I was left in charge of her affairs. I have read her will, and you are mentioned. She somehow knew that you, or someone by the name of Zoe, would be my mate. He also said that he would be taking her family estate, which is this pack. This guy wants to challenge me for the Alpha position."

As I looked deeply into the eyes of my mate, I was torn apart. He rarely mentioned his mother, his father even less. I knew that his father died when he was seventeen and that he was made Alpha. His mother was Luna until he turned eighteen. She then moved in with her new husband. Kade had never liked his step-father, and was horrified that his mother could move on in such a short time. His father had died one week before he turned eighteen, and, strangely enough, my due date was a week and two days after the anniversary.

After he had finished speaking, I moved sit next to him at the end of the bed. Resting my had on his shoulder, I grabbed his hands.

"Kade, there is so much on the line. You have so much on your plate. The challenge, you do not have to accept it, do you? If you do not have to, please do not do it"

  He shook his head.

"I do not have to, but I would great amounts of respect if I lost," he explained to me.

Kade took my hands and kissed them both. He gave me a sad smile, and put his hands on my stomach. He told me that he wanted the fight to be on the day of his father's death. I shook my head in disgust. That would mean he would be fighting in two weeks.

"Please be careful. You have strength, but you may need to improve upon not losing your cool," I began to explain.

Laughing, he gave me a quick peck on the lips.

"I love how much you know about warrior strategies. Most Lunas do not know as much as you, and that is what gives you an edge," Kade said with a proud grin.

Shaking my head, I felt a sharp kick in my belly. Then I felt it again. Smiling I turned to Kade and told him I had felt a kick. His face broke into an even more proud smile. He put a hand on my swollen stomach, and laughed when he felt it. For that moment, everything was just about as perfect as life could have been.
