Now it was late September, and Maya was long gone.

At first, I was upset with her that she didn't tell me why she was ignoring me.

I eventually got her crack through multiple texts, but she barely explained why she couldn't talk to me anymore.

Basically it was a combination of her dad and her waking up.  She had the same realization I had, only intensified.

She was a responsible junior, and I was nothing more than a mere freshman.

I moved on, aiming not to even stay friends with her.  Nothing would work with her.

One day, I got on the bus behind my friends.

There she was, the girl who I liked about a month ago, sitting right next to Dana.

I perched my butt right next to Trina, who was aloof from the entire population of the bus, probably checking something on some social media site.

"Hello guys," I said, purposely not focusing on her.

Ana barely acknowledged me, but "the other girl" looked up.

"Hello."  That was her typical greeting to me.  I admitted it was catchy.

All of a sudden, Trina tapped my shoulder.

I groaned and spun around.  Quietly, she pointed at her and made a heart with her hands.

I wobbled my hand, saying sort of.  Trina shook her head and sighed.

"You're hopeless," she whispered into my ear.

"Whatever!  I'm getting over her anyway!" I shouted as silently as possible.

She gave the arched eyebrow.  "The sky is blue.  The grass is green.  Dante likes her.  It's just how the world works."

I barreled over, laughing until I couldn't breathe.  "What a clever nursery rhyme," I said.

It was the simplest poem I've ever heard. She managed to sum up my feelings pretty well.

I do love her. It's just how the world works.
