A Difference

"Did you know that they were coming?" Benny mumbled as he helped me set the table.

"I sort of forgot but I didn't know that he would bring a friend," I said grinning over to where the adults were. They were on the other side of the room sipping some wine while they talked.

Miss Rosa had a bright smile on her face as my mother chatted to her. Mr Bronx and my dad were catching up while the two awkward teenagers set the table.

"It'll be awkward, though, with the whole Kelly pictures thing." He stated as he placed the cutlery next to each plate.

"What gave you that idea?" I asked sarcastically.

Benny looked at me with an annoyed expression on his face. I pulled my tongue at him, which he playfully rolled his eyes at.

"Benny." A deep voice spoke. I looked up seeing Benny a bit startled that he was being called. I motioned him to stop what he was doing and make his way over there.

He gave a stiff nod as he left the cutlery and walked towards Griffon and my dad. I looked over my shoulder seeing the three men talk. A challenging look on my father's face as he spoke to Benny. Thankfully being the open guy that Uncle Griff is, he lightened the mood seeing the nervous look on Benny's face.

I went to the kitchen to get the salad along with the passion fruit. I could hear laughter coming from the living room and I smiled to myself, tonight wouldn't be so bad.

My thoughts were interrupted when I heard footsteps enter the room, looking up from eating the cucumbers off the salad I saw Miss Rosa. Her dirty blonde hair was curled as she wore a floral dress matching it with white heels.

"Caught in the act." She joked as I swallowed the cucumber. Giving her a small smile I watched as she placed her wine glass in the sink, she was about to go when I spoke up.

"Miss Rosa, I'm sorry for what happened on Thursday with Kel-"

"It's okay Lana I got the full story." She waved off as I stared at her, a look of confusion on my face. She looked at the door and then back at me, a small smile on her face as she sighed.

"I thought I'd never see the day that Benny Nielson and Lana Willson would be in the same room together, getting along." She grinned placing a hand on her hip.

"Well he apologised for everything he's done in the past and everyone deserves a second chance." I exclaimed a smile crept on my face as she studied me.

"He's quite something." She commented.

"Uh huh...how did you get the full story?" I wondered while running a hand through my hair.

"After school I was packing to go home then someone came into the classroom. He explained how Kelly is such a, and I quote 'bitch' to you. Then you would always run off to Griffon since you knew him longer than anyone in the school." She began.

"He also said that you took full responsibility when they ruined Principal West's car." She added. I looked up at her a confused expression on my face.

"Who?"

"You'll find out soon." Miss Rosa assured me as she placed a hand on my arm.

"Thanks, Miss Rosa," I said as she began to walk back into the living room.

"Anytime and please, call me Jenny." She winked as she walked away.

...

"So Harriet how's work?" Griffon asked as he cut the turkey.
