Behind The Bet
I stared at the remaining cinnamon rolls thinking that I would have to make more in the next few days. I placed them all in a container as the living rooms laughter disturbed my thoughts. Everyone was still here and the adults still treated Axel like a freaking king. The curiosity is killing me and I mentally reminded myself to ask them about it later.
I placed the container in the fridge and then shut it. Our double door fridge had many things on it. Pictures of when I was young, my parents on their wedding day, Levi and I when we were little, grocery list and a calendar. Yet the thing that caught my eye was the small mirror held up with a magnet.
I took off my glasses as I stared at myself in the mirror. Even though it was a bit blur I could still see the stiches on my chin. I slowly traced the stiches with my thumb thinking how mom would have to take it out in a week.
The sound of crockery being placed in the sink brought me back to reality as I spun around. A tall figure stood by the sink and seemed to be looking at me. I slowly put on my glasses to see Blake staring at me.
"These are really good." He said gesturing to the rolls.
"Thanks." I mumbled. I watched as his gaze suddenly dropped. I followed his eyes seeing that he stopped at my neck.
Fudge.
I tied my hair up earlier but only took my scarf off when I entered the kitchen. Looking over at the chair where my maroon scarf laid, I grabbed it and slowly put it on.
I went back to packing away the other cinnamon rolls as I took out another container. I could literally feel his eyes burning in the back of my skull as I stacked the rolls into the container.
Multiple footsteps entered the kitchen as I packed away the second last container. I spun around and leaned on the fridge to see Axel, Keene and Levi entering the kitchen.
I watched as Keene swiftly put his jacket on while Levi rummaged through the drawers. Glancing over my shoulder and into the living room, I saw the rest of the guys engrossed into a basketball game that was showing on the TV.
"What are you looking for?" I asked as Levi snooped through the cupboards.
"The lighter fluid that I bought. Have you seen it?" he asked turning to me.
I gave him a 'are you kidding me' look. Of course I have seen it! I almost threw it out! If dad saw it he would have flipped. Levi stared at me with a questioning look as I let out a sigh.
I walked to the island and reached over by the fruit bowl. Dad barely eats fruit so it was the perfect place to hide it. I snatched the bottle out and tossed it to Levi.
We all watched as he whipped out his Zippo lighter and refilled it with the lighter fluid. Out the corner of my eye Miranda and Benny entered the room.
"Pumpkins' dating a jock now?" Axel piped up as Benny stood next to me. I gave a curt nod as Axel smirked.
"Didn't see that coming." He sighed taking a quick glance at his brother. "But hey...you know what they say. Expect the unexpected."
Axel winked at Blake causing me to raise a brow. I wearily rested my head on Benny's shoulder as I watched Levi. Once he was done he put the bottle back between the fruits.
"Thanks prin- Lana." He mumbled.
"Where are you guys going?" Miranda asked as they began to walk out the back door.
