Y/N POV

Several weeks had gone by, and I was starting to feel well adjusted to my new routine, new classes, and new friends. When the first light of dawn appeared through the curtains of the Gryffindor dormitory, I lay tangled in my warm blankets. Blinking my eyes, I turned over and squinted at the clock on my bedside table. Panic flooded my veins as I realized the time. It was nine-thirty.

Why didn't Hermione wake me up?

Heart racing, I jumped out of bed and I threw on my robes. Within minutes, I raced out of the common room, heading toward the Great Hall. However, as as soon as I entered the hallway, I was caught off guard by the sound of three familiar voices drifting from a nearby corridor.

"Where's y/n?" A familiar voice asked.

I recognized it immediately. It was Harry's.

"I didn't wake her," Hermione answered, her voice low. "She can't know that we left last night."

"But she's our friend. She could've come with us." Ron suggested.

Come with them? Come with them where?

"I don't want to drag her into this," Hermione answered. "I don't think she'd understand."

"I-I guess." Harry replied.

What are they hiding from me?

I clenched my jaw, feeling the heat of anger rise within me, and stormed in the opposite direction. The realization hit me hard: I had missed breakfast, and now, it felt like I was missing out on something far more important.

"One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation — the ability to make objects fly. Uh, do you all have your feathers?" Professor Flitwick chirped, his eyes scanning the room.

Everyone raised their feathers high.

"Good. Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm? The swish and flick. Everyone! The swish and flick. Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then." He waved his wand, setting the class into motion.

Feeling isolated, I chose to sit alone today, a deliberate distance away from Hermione, Ron, and Harry. How could I have done something wrong? I had only been here for a day. Shaking away my thoughts, I focused my attention back on Professor Filtwick.

I lifted my wand, fixating my gaze on the feather before me and spoke, "Wingardium Leviosaaaaa?"

"Don't ask it, y/n. Say it proudly!" Filtwick says.
