"You haven't got a class soon, right?" Yoongi enthused excitedly.
Even if he had only known him for a short while, Yoongi was certain that he was beginning to like Jimin more and more. Everything around him seemed to become so much brighter since he had met him. Not only was the sky painted a brilliantly vibrant blue, but the dreamlike haze that encased the entire beach blissful summer heat had only intensified, and the vigorous waves that would violently crash against the shore were now calmer than he had ever seen before. His once tiresome work shifts had become his favourite hours of the day, (merely the thought of getting to see Jimin was enough to bring a smile to his face), and there was a newfound optimism in whatever he did. As the days progressed, and with time beginning to feel as though it was running out, Yoongi felt increased pressure to show this to him.
"Well, not for an hour, no!" Jimin chuckled. He couldn't help but wince slightly at Yoongi's overly-excited grip, but continued to grin as he was dragged across the sand.
Similarly, Jimin felt as though he too was succumbing to Yoongi more than ever; his admiration for Yoongi's focus and drive had only led him to mirror such dedication in his own work. For the first time in a while it was as if he had a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and he was thankful for it.
"Great!" Yoongi suddenly stopped, releasing Jimin from his grasp. He rushed down to the floor, proceeding to heave his sandals from his feet.
Jimin was instantly confused - they weren't going swimming or something, right?
"Wait, what are you doing?" He questioned.
He looked rather bewildered as he watched the boy below him clutch the sides of his shirt and pull it upward. Soon enough, he had removed it from his body entirely, and Jimin abruptly darted his eyes away, his face beginning to burn.
"I thought we could go for a swim." Yoongi chirped, promptly picking himself up from the floor.
Jimin could feel his heart pounding in his chest. For a moment he thought that Yoongi might have been kidding, but as he noticed the sincerity in his expression, a sharp sinking feeling surged in his stomach. What if he would have to swim far out? He needed some sort of excuse not to go.
"We just ate." He stuttered. Yoongi barely looked convinced, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Jimin. As a lifeguard, I can assure you that you're not going to sink after half an ice-cream." He scoffed, sarcasm very clearly lingering in his voice.
"Okay...If you say that..." Jimin sighed, reluctantly flicking his own shoes off of his feet. Before he could even begin to remove his own shirt, he looked up to see Yoongi diving head-first into the water.
"Aish! So cold!" He shivered, making Jimin giggle. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, he thought.
Taking a deep breath, he fumbled toward the shore. He carefully dipped a toe into the water, re-assessing its temperature. While he knew that it was practically always this sort of icy temperature, he would usually be moving around to help the kids, and it would never seem to bother him so much. Knowing that he would most likely be staying in the same position, he was apprehensive, but as he noticed that Yoongi had floated a little further out, he nervously submerged himself into the depths.
"Let's swim further out, shall we?" Yoongi enthused suddenly, taking him by surprise. Jimin felt stupid. He should have known.
"Um, I'm not so sure, Yoongi-hyung... I do have to be back soon." Jimin urged, biting his lip with concern.
"Don't worry, I'm a quick swimmer!" He cried in response, circling around in an attempt to warm himself up. He barely noticed the rising anger which was slowly starting to heat Jimin's cheeks once again.
"I really can't." Jimin shook his head, trying his hardest to hide the tears forming in his eyes. He desperately wanted to, but he couldn't help but remember what happened before...
"It'll be fun, I promise!" Yoongi poked him playfully.
Feeling his rationality and patience slip away, he couldn't stop himself from shouting.
"No, it won't!" He held his breath as he realised just how loud he had been, and his heart sunk at the sight of Yoongi's equally disheartened and frightened expression.
"Hey..." Yoongi breathed, his usually soothing voice only striking Jimin with more regret.
"I think I'm gonna swim back." He sniffed, turning to face the shore.
"Wait! Jimin, I'm sorry. I-"
