I slammed the front door behind me and let my backpack slip off of my shoulder.

"Tyler? Is that you?" I heard my mom's concerned voice say as she hurried out of the kitchen. She looked at me with wide eyes. "Why are you crying?"

"M-mom," I stuttered, trying to catch my breath. "I'm, um, I'm." I stopped talking and caught my breath.

"You're what, honey?" She walked closer and placed a hand on my arm.

"I'm gay," I finally said. I let out a sigh of relief and closed my eyes tight.

"Oh, Tyler. Don't be upset about that." She pulled me into her arms and stroked my back. "I'm proud of you for telling me."

"Y-you're not mad?" I asked.

"Mad? Of course not. You're my son. Why would I be mad at you for something you cant help?" I laughed into her shoulder and blinked away my tears.

"I love you, mom," I said pulling away.

"I love you, too. Now, was that all that's wrong?"

"No," I said, frowning. "Can I talk to you about something?"

"Is it boy problems?" I nodded and she laughed lightly. "I didn't realize that would start so soon. Tell me all about it while I make dinner."

So I told her. I told her everything. Well, almost everything. I told her about he hated me at first. I told her we became friends as we helped with the campers. I told her we kissed. I told her what I promised and I told her what I did at school.

I left out anything about our self harm and the songs I sang. I left out the song I wrote for him.

"Tyler, I've told you that I don't like those boys on your team."

"I know, mom. But, I have to be friends with them. They'd kick me off the team."

"They can't. Coach wouldn't allow that."

"Oh, please. Coach calls us 'fags' if we don't do enough push ups."

"He what?" my mom exclaimed. She turned away from the pot of food and placed her hand son her hip. "How is he allowed to do that to you boys?"

"Because he's the coach," I said, blandly.

"I'm gonna call the school." My eyes widened.

"You can't! Mom, if coach finds out it was you that called, it'll just get worse. I'll handle it."

"Are you sure?"

"Yea."

"Okay." She turned back to the pot of spaghetti. I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Josh. I didn't think it would change anything, but I did it any way.

Tyler: I came out to my mom. I told her I was gay and I told her about us

I heard the front door open and my breath stopped. I heard my dad set down his bag and walk towards the kitchen. I didn't think I was ready to tell him. My dad was always there to make me more masculine.

"Hey, honey," my dad said, kissing my mom. "Hey, Tyler. Sorry I couldn't pick you up. I hope the walk wasn't too bad."

"It's cool," I replied, sheepishly. My mom gave me a look and I sighed. "Dad, I actually need to tell you something. It's kind of important."

"Okay," he said, confused. He sat down across from me at the table. My hands began fidgeting again.

"Um, I just want you to know that I'm-" I looked way. "Gay." A thick silence filled the room. I kept my eyes fixed onto the ground. I listened as his chair pushed away from the table and I heard footsteps. Suddenly, I felt his arms wrap around me. I froze before hugging him back.

"I love you, Tyler. I'm glad you told me." My breathing went back to normal and I laughed.

"I love you, too, Dad."

We walked up to the familiar building and I grew nervous. It was my first time going to church since coming out. My parents kept telling me I would be okay, but I was still scared. Our pastor was rather progressive compared to others in the area. My dad told me that he had already told our pastor about me being gay.

When we walked in, my family greeted other families before finding a seat near the front. I got as comfortable as I could in the wooden pew and adjusted my button up shirt.

"Greeting, everyone. I hope you all had a blessed week. I would like to start the morning off by congratulating Tyler Joseph." I felt my heart catch in my throat and fought the urge to run out the door. "Tyler recently came out of the closet as a homosexual." I heard gasps of surprise and 'aww's throughout the room. I wanted to evaporate. A few people began clapping and soon everyone joined in. My brother, Zack, slapped a hand on my shoulder, laughing.

"We're all very happy for you and proud of you."

"Um, th-thanks," I stuttered. I was blushing madly and tried to hide my face in my hands. I let out a quiet groan.
