THIS HIT 2K READS HOLY SHIT
I LOVE YOU GUYS A LOT
------I walked into school on Monday as confidently as possible. Since my pastor told everyone at church, word had spread to almost the entire town by now. It felt weird that a secret I'd been hiding for years was now known by everyone.
I got to my first period class and sat down in my seat. Chris looked up at me and then back to his desk. Nick walked in and went past me to talk to Chris. I watched as they laughed and showed each other things on their phones. I began doodling something as I waited for the teacher to start.
I didn't pay attention at all during class. I spent the entire time drowning out her voice and scribbling my thoughts down in the margins of my notes. The words began to jumble together in places, but it didn't matter. What mattered was that the words were being written.
The same thing repeated for my second period class. I just sat there and let my thoughts drown me. My only thoughts were of Josh. I knew that I needed to see him. I had lunch next and he would be there. I knew exactly what I was going to do and say.
When the bell rang, I shot out of my seat. I grabbed my things and jogged to my locker, throwing them in and slamming it shut. I didn't bother to get my food. I just needed to find Josh.
When I got to the cafeteria, I looked around for him. I remembered what he'd told me about him sitting by the trash cans. Sure enough, there he was. He was with two girls and a guy that I didn't know. I walked up to him and tapped his shoulder. He looked up at me with confusion on his face.
"What do you want?" I grabbed his arms and pulled him up so that he was standing. "Tyler, what are you-" I cut him off by connecting our lips.
"Oh, FUCK," I heard one for the girls say. I pulled away and laughed lightly. Josh just stood there, smiling.
"Why did you do that?" he asked, biting his lip.
"I told you. I need you, Josh. And you wanted me to show you, so, this is me showing you. I want everyone to know that I-" I stopped myself. I wanted to be sure. "I love you, Josh."
"I love you, too," he said, wrapping his arms around me.
"Fags!" a voice shouted. I pulled myself from Josh's grip and looked around. I realized that the entire school was watching up. I felt the embarrassment crawl up my skin. I found the person who shouted it and glared. Chris just laughed and high-fived Nick.
"Come on," Josh said, grabbing my hand. He began pulling me and I followed his lead. He led me out of the cafeteria and out of the school. I didn't care that I would miss the rest of my classes or that I would miss basketball practice. I just cared that my hand was in his and we were together.
We slowed down once we were a few blocks from the school. Our hands swayed together like a pendulum, keeping time to our footsteps and heartbeats.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Away from here," he replied, a smile in his voice.
"Can we stop by my house? I want to get something." I looked at him and he nodded before placing a soft kiss to my lips. I could never get used to that wonderful feeling.
When we got to my house, I showed him upstairs. I went to get my ukulele out of its spot in my closet and grabbed my notebook. When I turned back to Josh he was looking at the photos on my walls. His focus was on one of me when I was 8.
"You were so cute," he said. "What happened?" I hit him playfully and walked out of my room. I heard my bedroom door close as he followed me. We left my house and went back to our walking.
"We should go to the park," I suggested.
"Good idea. But first, we should get food. I didn't eat lunch."
"Me neither."
So, we walked to the Taco Bell. I was craving a crunchy shell, so I got two tacos. Josh got a burrito. We got it to go and Josh carried the bag. When we got to the park, we found a place in the grass that was nice. We took off our jackets and sat on them.
"Cheers!" Josh said holding up his burrito. I hit it with my taco and giggled as he took a huge bite. We ate in a comfortable silence. The gentle breeze flew through us as we relaxed. I crumpled up my wrappers and put them back into the bag. I got my water bottle that I had packed for practice out of my bag and took a long drink.
"Can I play you something?" I asked, putting the bottle back in my bag.
"Of course," he said. His smile widened. "Is this one about me?"
"Um, actually, yea," I said. I opened my notebook to the most recently written song and made sure my uke was tuned.
"Does it have a name yet?"
"Holding Onto You."
