With George having a meeting with the rest of the Union J boys in Central London all afternoon and Michael taking Katy and Jack shopping with him for mum’s birthday present, I’d resulted in spending my afternoon on the sofa in mum and Michael’s lounge, watching the showbiz news bulletins on MTV.
“England’s favourite celebrity couple have officially got back together,” the reporter announced for the fifth time in the last two hours. “Spotted at Heathrow Airport, Sammy Jones and George Shelley were making no efforts to keep their reunion a secret. No news yet as to what happened between Sammy and her flame with Justin Bieber. Is it a good thing that they’re back together or not?”
I groaned to myself, just like I had every time they repeated the same bulletins every twenty minutes.
“What is it?” mum asked as she sat down beside me on the sofa.
“I don’t see how it’s anybody’s business apart from mine and George’s,” I sighed to myself, turning the television channel over. “We don’t get involved in everybody else’s relationships so why do they have to butt into ours?”
Mum smiled at me. “You knew it’d be like this though.”
“I know but I just didn’t think that people would get this involved,” I said. “Why do they need to know the reasons to why we’re back together? We just are back together, why can’t they accept that instead of having to know everything? It’s like yesterday when I went to pick Jack up - all the parents in the school playground were looking at me and talking about me and I don’t get why it’s any of their business.”
“It’s just showbiz, honey,” mum smiled. “As long as you and George are happy, and little Katy, then that’s all that really matters.”
I nodded. I knew she was right but it didn’t stop me from getting worked up about other people getting involved in business that wasn’t theirs to get involved with.
After a few minutes of watching television in silence with mum, I heard the front door open. Mum looked at me as I looked at her, both as confused as each other.
“I thought Michael said he wouldn’t be back until 6ish,” mum said, standing up and walking into the hallway.
As soon as she walked into the hallway, she walked back into the lounge followed by George.
“What are you doing back?” I asked.
“Whoa,” he said. “I forgot I had to have permission to come back.”
“I didn’t mean it like that,” I smiled. “I just mean, aren’t you supposed to be in the meeting?”
“Finished early,” he smiled. “But I’ve got something to talk to you about.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“Um,” George paused.
“Honey, I think that means George means a private talk,” mum laughed, walking into the hallway.
“What is it?” I asked after mum had shut the lounge door behind her.
“Can we go upstairs?” he asked.
I looked at him, confused as to why this talk needed to be done upstairs. “What?”
After sighing to himself, George grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me up from the sofa. Opening the lounge door back open after mum had just shut it, we ran up the stairs, nearly knocking mum off her feet as we overtook her half way up the staircase.
“It’s like you’re eighteen again,” mum groaned as she watched George pull me into my old bedroom and shut the door behind us.
“What is it?” I asked, sitting on my bed as I looked at him in confusion.
“I’ve been thinking and well,” he paused. “What’s keeping us at the apartment?”
I didn’t understand what he meant. “What?”
“Well, it’s not like we’ve got lots of great memories there and Katy’s going to need more space as she grows up and we’ll need more space when we decide we want more kids so why don’t we just..”
I interrupted him. “More kids?”
“We do want more in the future, don’t we?” he asked, sitting down on the bed beside me.
“Wait a sec,” I paused. “What’s brought all this on?”
“I’ve been thinking a lot since yesterday and we can’t go back to the apartment as it doesn’t feel right after everything that’s happened,” he explained. “Why don’t we sell it and buy a proper house together?”
I sat looking at him in shock. “A house? Like.. a house?”
“Yeah, you know, a house generally is like a house, Sammy,” he laughed. “Just picture it, us in a house with Katy – a proper family house; a home in fact.”
“But..”
George interrupted me before I even had chance to say what I was going to say to him. “I was thinking not central London as it’s not really ideal to bring up Katy in a city, but not too far out so we can both get to London easily as we’ve got all our friends and work here.”
“You have really being thinking about this, haven’t you?” I laughed.
“Yeah,” he nodded as he smiled at me. “We need this after the last few months we’ve had. It’ll be a new house with new memories to be made – just a new start for all three of us.”
“Okay then,” I smiled. “Let’s do it.”
