“Finally,” Chloe laughed as me and mum reached the bottom of the stairs into the lobby of the hotel, holding Katy’s hands as she walked in between us.
“Sorry. Katy wanted to walk down,” I grinned as I picked Katy up and rested her back on my waist.
As Kayla quickly readjusted my veil and tiara, Michael sneaked out of the ceremony room and smiled as soon as he saw us all stood in the hotel lobby in our dresses. “You all look so lovely,” he said.
“What are you doing?” mum asked him, looking confused. “You need to be in there.”
“No..”
I interrupted Michael before he had chance to say anything else to mum. “Mum, I know you said you’d give me away but it’s traditional for the father of the bride to give the bride away and since dad died, I’ve only ever had granddad and Michael as a father figure and I just thought it’d be nice for Michael to give me away,” I said.
“Honey, that’s fine,” she grinned. “That’s more than fine. I’d love that.”
“Anyway, you’re not really giving me away as I’ll still come to yours to nick all your Ben and Jerry’s ice cream,” I joked.
“No, we are giving you away,” mum winked. “Poor George.”
“Poor George for sure,” Chloe laughed, hobbling closer to the door.
“Come on, Chloe,” I grinned. “Hop to it.”
“Girls,” mum said. “Behave.”
As I smiled at Katy, the registrar walked out of the room. “We’re ready for you,” she grinned.
“Walk!” Katy grinned, signalling for me to put her down so she could walk in.
“Good luck,” mum mouthed to me before following the registrar into the ceremony room.
I took a deep breath as Michael linked his arm up with mine. Katy stood in front of me as Chloe, Elle and Kayla walked into the room, holding onto their bouquets of lilac flowers. I clutched onto my bouquet as an ocean of nerves flooded my entire body.
“Ready?” Michael asked me as Chloe and Kayla disappeared into the room.
I nodded. “Ready.”
As I nodded, my heart began to pound at double the speed. It felt as if my heart could explode out of my chest at any moment – it was pounding that fast. I took another deep breath as I began to walk into the room, linking arms with Michael and Katy plodding along in front of us. This was it.

Walking down the aisle like I’d practiced since I was about three years old, I smiled at everyone as they looked. The more faces I looked at, the more nervous I got. As I got half way down the aisle, I looked straight down the aisle and saw George at the end, looking right back at me with a huge smile across his face. As soon as I saw his smile, all my nerves seemed to disappear. Looking at him smiling back at me made it feel like we were the only ones in the whole world, let alone the room. Katy trudged along in front of me faster and faster to the front. The second she reached the front, George leant down and picked her up, scooping her in his arms for a huge hug, making everyone in the room ‘aww’. I giggled, blushing a little, as I got to the front.
“Look after her,” Michael smiled to George as I stood in front of him.
“I will,” George grinned. “I really will.”
Michael went to stand beside mum, taking my bouquet of flowers with him as George took hold of my hand, still holding onto Katy in his other arm.
